i was just wundering what everyone thinks about battlefield vietnam, post what you like/dislike and any problems you have been having.

well i like the game exept for the helis, it hink there ALOT worse than the DC ones. Another thing i dont like is the lag i get and its not net lag i get it when im playing with a few bots :-/. other than i dont have too much to complain about. i like the terain detail better than BF1942. im hoping to see some new mods that will change the helicopters but in general i like it.

I don't have it but from the screenshots I saw the terrain did look pretty sweet. I had to choose UT2k4 or BF vietnam and since I've already had played BF for a while now figured I'd switch it up.

I got it and love it....never had the original BF:1942:rolleyes:

I'm wondering about the lag....I don't have it.
not even with tons of bots.

I only have it one day, and have not played it much....
I'll be on it all night, tonight.
so I'll let you guys know, what's up.

Much more tactical than your standard shooter, great weapons, great game feel.....just in general a very good and solid game. :)

Have it, love it, mind you I love BF1942 and desert combat too. I hope desert combat takes the new helicopter engine from bfv, its soo much easier.

I got BFV and UT2004 at same time and I must say I have been playing UT2004 more...at the moment I would say that is a better game, looks better, runs better.

BFV needs a little patch work here or there to alleviate some performance problems, then UT2004 will probably have the greater shelf time ;)

yeah UT2004 is definitely as good as if not slightly better than BFV, but in my opinion the UT2K4 demo is more than enough to satisfy my UT needs, especially since the only game mode I like is onslaught. So for me it was pay $40 to get more maps for a game I already have or pay $40 for a brand new game that is as fun (more, really) as UT. And I still have the UT demo for when I get that urge.

As far as my opinions of BFV (not related to UT that is), I simply can't get enough of the game. I bought it today (got the singleplayer ripped version from a friend yesterday, it convinced me that it was worth buying) and I haven't stopped playing since. It's very fun and addicting. I never played BF:1942 because I thought it was just too chaotic during online play. This game is so much better, it's almost beyond comparison. Where there once was chaos, there is now order thanks to the more tactical gameplay of this sequel.

Another thing I love about this game is the variety of the maps. Some maps involve a lot of Call of Duty-style indoor gunbattles, whereas other maps are large outdoor maps where commandeering a vehicle is almost a necessity. One of my favorite maps is the Ho Chi Minh trail map, in which a usual game involves grabbing a ride in an APC to where the main battle is and getting right into the action.

Another addition that adds to the feel of the game while improving gameply is the helicopters. These flying tanks are great for doing just about anything, once you figure out how to fly them, that is (I remapped the up/down keys to ctrl and c so that my UT habits wouldnt get the best of me). What's more fun than dropping tanks on people? Nothing, I tell you, nothing.

Sound, gameplay, guns... this game has it all. Get it.

first off...I HATE the flying now. They've made choppers WAY too easy to fly, as opposed to Desert Combat. You don't even have to try to hover....if you let go of w/s, it stays where you put it.

A lot of the fun of flying heli in DC was knowing that you could...it takes skill to fly heli in DC, and it was something to be proud of.

Another gripe I have is the roll on the planes....wayyy too unresponsive. If I tap left arrow, it does absolutely nothing. If I hold left arrow to the point where the plane actually starts to roll, I end up flipping upside-down. I'm used to the instant response in DC fighter jets, I guess...lol.

ANyway...enough complaining.

If you liked BF1942, you'll LOVE Vietnam! It takes everything from the original and improves it (except for previous mentioned flying, rofl).

The maps are very well balanced. Just when it looks like you're about to shut the other team out of a spawn point, they're suddenly taking another one over. It's a real game of tug-of-war, which makes it much more fun to play since you always have to worry about something.

Online play is a MUST! Offline play is nothing compared to online play. I didn't try the higher difficulty settings offline, but on normal mode the AI is pretty bad. If they're not sitting in a jeep vegitating, they're seeing you through corners. Very bad, in my opinion.

My only other major gripe is the lack of a campaign mode. Instant battle is there, but it's just not the same. Campaign mode really helped to get you familiar with all the maps and vehicles in 1942.....I mean, there really was no point to it aside from to make you sit down and play the maps.

Other than that, it's a great game. what I want to see next is Battlefield 1917. I wanna get in the trenches, lol. Considering the gameplay of vietnam and 1942, I don't think that would be a problem.

edit:

one more thing...the music is great! I feel like such a hippy, lol. for those interested, while you're in a vehicle press the number 0 and you can choose what to put on your radio, lol.

I love the game IMMENSELY But the US side is so unbalanced and crazy its just stupid. I noticed today that the m60 class is just crazily overpowered on some maps, and just regular overpowered on others. On maps it gets the magnum and the medpac it is UNSTOPPABLE it can heal, snipe, supress, and Anti tank its just too easy, yes you can snipe with the magnum and its just too much fun :).

Well BFV what can I say
I loved bf1942 to let you all know

GFX-They are OK, not that impressive after playing far cry. But htey are decent. Btw max details at 1024x768

Sound is pretty good nothign to write home about, though the radio feature is awesome.

Gameplay.

Its ok. No doubt it is really cool jumping in a copter with you and some pals, flying off into a hotzone, laying down cover fire and jumping out, fighting to hold, just to watch the same pilot drop 4 more buds to help you out, even better when one is a medic.

Still reloading takes waayy to long. I know if i was in the middle of combat i woudl move a helluva lot faster whiel i was reloading then they do in that game. Seriosuly it dosent add tention. It just a "GDI GAME BLOODY RELOAD YOU STUPID GAME GDI ALREADY RELOAD", rather then the "oh crap oh crap hurry there we go" that it should be.

Like others have said, m60 is a complete joke, way to overpowered.

Other than that the weapons do need some tweaking (reloading gdi) but other than they they are cool and do their job.

This game begs for terrian that can be deformed, since tanks shoudl be able to roll throuhg trees, and napalm should light things on fire, unfortnaly none of that happens and the napalm is pretty weak. It looks pretyt lame, and its really hard to napalm correctly due to the fog of war.

As far as the foliage its pretty lame. People on low end pc's render less folliage making it easier for them to see you.

Still does anyone play the VC's?? I swear most of the fun in this game comes from the helicopters. WHen you are holding a point, just you and a few buds, nothing says thakn you God, like the sound of a radio followed by heavy fun fire, and a few troops jumping out.

Still as far as a LAN goes, i find ut2k4 more intersting. I think the ut2k4 demo got more play than BFV but oh well. Still fun but to many issues if you ask me. Its sad because like i said some moments are just awesome, others its just like GDI this isboring.

oh yea, forgot about the m60. Although both sides have an equivelant gun, the m60-law combo is freakin unstoppable. Blow up a tank, and then mow down the guys who jump out of it from a good distance. freaken unbelieveable.

Aside from that, I found the map balance to be incredible. It's impossible to shut an enemy out from respawning....because just when you think you have them cornered, suddenly the cap points behind you start falling. In almost every game I played tonight (I played for about 3 hours straight a while earlier), I went from dominating the other team almost to oblivion, to fighting for my life to save the last cap point we own.

Oh yea...one last thing....

to those complaining about your US soldiers speaking in Vietnamese....that's because they're south viet soldiers, not US....although you're still referred to as the US sometimes.

I liked it and luckily I am not really having any of the problems described above. :-P

I love it! Its the most fun I've had playing a computer game in a long time. I played BF42 for several months and I like BFV even better. Everything is improved in my opinion, I love the cover that the jungle provides, it makes the game so much more strategic. Also they "fixed" the weapons where they are actually shoot bullets instead of BBs, on BF42 it took WAY too many shots to kill, but now its like 1 or 2 and they are dead. That was my major problem with BF42, but BFV fixed it, w00t. And finally, you gotta love the music, nothing quite like hearing Creedance blasting in a tank as they roll by you or hearing "I Fought the Law" blaring in a chopper overhead. It's lots of fun!

Also, The M60 is lame, but hopefully EA will fix it in the first patch by making it less accurate when standing or something. I was playing on a server today as the NVA and 18 of the 20 Americans were using M60s, it needs fixed. Other than a few patchable problems, it rocks.
