was playing NFS: underground, then a friend came, put the cans on the chair, got back and didn't realize it was there .. jumped straight on top of it ... and CRACK!!! .. there goes my HD-470 .. there goes my $25 sennheiser :) ..

so, I'm gonna graduate off college soon, and will sell my desktop and use laptop from now on (dang new job wants me to be away from home from time to time) ...

so I need a portable set of cans with cable runs only on one side, and closed ear (will have to go by plane from time to time) ... will put it through dell inspiron 8600 .. i want quality .. as this should last me for a while :)

i love sennheiser PX-200 and only gripe is that the cables are on both sides and somehow I'd manage to tangle them after a short while (I move my head a lot ..)

Thx for the help guys.

uhm .. portable is the key .. the PX200 is foldable and will fit just fine on a laptop bag .. but 280 might just be a tad too big ...

yeha but they can fold up pretty good, and can be quite small too

It doesn't matter much how nice the headphones are. Laptops stink when it comes to their sound cards. Unless you plan on adding one of the creativte break out USB boxes for sound.

I buy cheap ones, when they break I buy more.

Its kinda slang for headphones. I think its because back in the day headphones looked like actual cans.

You might want to look at some Etymonic headphones. They're in-ear but provide amazing sound quality from what I've heard in reviews.

yeah, in ear headphones are quite nice. Plus, they isolate your sound from external noises.

I use some Shure E2 in-ear and they sound quite good. Their more expensive models have 2 drivers per mini-can (as it were) and probably sound great.

thx for all the replies guys ...
my laptop has cmedia 9739 onboard audio; it's not that bad :D .. cmedia 8738 is the chipset of hercules museXL, and the 9739 is the updated version of 8738 .. it's much better than ALC650 solution .. i tried both :D

as for the cans, I decided on Sennheiser PX200 since they're more within my budget .. those etymotics are nice, but they cost an arm and a leg ...
