I have found out I need to fully reformat and reinstall Windows. For me this has become a big chore cuz of so many programs and things on my hard drive. Now this is not as bad as what concerns my future plans. I am intending on buying the Radeon2 as soon as it is available, and things point to it becoming available next month. So here is what I am wondering about.
It would be best if I could install the new Radeon2 on a fresh Windows install when I get it. But I need to start reinstalling Windows now, 1 month early; so?
Why can't I take one my hard drives and start the new installation of Windows on it, working with it while I limp with my current copy on my main hard drive. When I am along enuff, I could make a mirror copy of it and replace the Windows I am using now on my main C drive, and use a full V5 driver installation? And when I do get the Radeon2, I can then mirror copy my backup Windows, with no 3dfx Tools installed back to my C drive, giving me a clean Windows to install the Radeon2 on.
The above isn't hard, but what I am wondering about is this; Since I am wanting a fresh install of Windows, I really wouldn't prefer having 3dfx Tools and all the associated files concerning it on my new build, in my backup copy. Yet I would like to have the Desktop resolution of my new install, while working with it, set higher than 640x480, preferably my current of 1152x864. So my 1st real question is; Is not there a display driver file with the 3dfx install files, that I could use by itself to change the display mode with my V5 only? Thus keeping the rest of my Windows install free of any contamination from another v card's full installation set of drivers? (The main copy that I transfer for immediate use and gaming untill I get the Radeon2, I can do the full install of V5 drivers.) Anyway what would this file be called and how is the best way to install it?
Second quick question; Who do you think would be first and fastest place to get the new Radeon2 from, just as soon as possible, when it is officially released?
In relation to my post about the V5 and Radeon2.
I have RAID capability with my Abit BE6-2r2 motherboard.
I have 3 Maxtor 40gig ata 100 hard drives. All attached to ata 100 headers.
My question is: Can I select just TWO of those drives for RAID and my third drive not be affected, not be reformatted in the process?
And can't I take that third hard drive, if I have my Windows on it and transfer it, mirror copy it to the 2 hard drives I have combined for my RAID?
Cheers,
Mike Lamb
