View Full Version : celeron OC'ing
I have a celeron 366 clocked to 500mhz. I also have a 500 celeron clocked to 750. All both required to reach that speed was to set the fsb to 100. Both run as good or better than stock at these speeds with two 4 inch case fans and an orb on the processor. The mobo these are on is a soyo 6IZA. I have just purchased a Soyo sy-vca mobo and a celeron 800. What kindo of results can i exspect with this combo? Any tips from you studdly peeps out there as to some do's and donts with this setup?
Welcome to the forums.
The 800 chip has some good overclocking results. To be sure, check the CPU database on the homepage...
Most Celeron 800 can reach mid 900s, some 1 GHZ! Watch those temps.
Also, I need to say that running a 500 celeron at 750 would be a near record... Intel stopped using the Katmai core (the one in the celeron 500) since it wouldn't run stable higher than 600. You may want to recheck that.

well not sure what i should be able to get out of mine but it'll be a good comparrison....ok
i have a celeron 633e 66mhz chip on an asus p3v133 pc133 m/b with via chipset this is number two of same motherboard firast one i had would only allow me to set to 66mhz at 600mhz or 83.4 at 791mhz......but had internal clock fault and time wouldn't run right so got replacement board still same type....
now this time it would only run at either 66mhz or .....oh joy oh glee at 100mhz fsb which gave me straight off 950 with standard supply fan and heatsink...ok booted well ran windows but hung once i ran icq......ok no worries read manul some more and noted i have all voltages adjustable by jumpers not bios so ok standard it ran at 1.6v......very cold.........so stepped up .5v at a time till it ran very stable at 1.8 still very cool .....between 1.7 and 1.8 had conflict with video card...geforce2 mx at 1.8v sweet as ran benchmark with no further tweaking gave a benchmark of 1188
having read the forums have noted i should bve able to get more out of it but would like some technical suggestions on best ways to achieve further overclocking if my calcs are correct i should be able to reach minimum 1064mhz anyone with suggestions of best minimal cost cooling ideas please reply...
cheers and keep overclocking it aint clocked till it blows..............SPECTACULARLY....
I know that my Celeron 300 would ONLY go to about 400 and then it would start overheating. I didn't want to buy better cooling yet so I overclocked my p2350 (these are both slot 1 processors) and I took that to 504 fairly stable but it is most (100%) stable at 480. I'm more then happy! :-)

I've gotten my Celeron 800 up to 992 right now and when I get my PC133 memory I'll try 1064MHz. I know it's not the most extreme overclock ever but it runs completely stable and isn't overheating. I haven't even had to increase the Vcore yet. Good luck with yours.

Thats what it says in the bios. I set the jumper on the board to the 100 mhz fsb settings and it has no choice but to run at that speed, same with my 366 celery that i am running now. the 500 came out of an Emachines of all machines too lol. The chip actually runs about 5 degrees F cooler at the 100 fsb also. I have two 4 in. case fans as well as a fan on the processor, plus a big fan on top of the orb pulling cool air up through the fins. Get back with me and let me know if I am nuts or just got lucky with the chip? You arent the only one to tell me that i did the impossible with the 500:D. Lol to tell you the truth that processor wouldnt even post on any fsb settings other than the 66 and 100 ones.

Thats pretty much the same thing i had going on with the two chips i have been OC'ing. (the 366@550 and the 500@750)
It is either 66fsb or 100fsb, not even a post on any other settings. But i seem to be having better results than you are. I know one thing that really seemed to help maintaining temperature is using thermal compound between the processor and the heatsink. I really did like the 500@750, it ran circles around this slow 366@550. The reason i dont have the 500@750 no mo is that i sold the emacheap that it came out of and he wanted the 500 even though i had told him it had been OC'ed lol, but hey, $150 bucks for that hunk of crap im not going to argue lol.

Thanks for the feedback. What kindo of mobo are you running? And yes, hopefully i can attain similar results. The board should be here anyday now. (I am so excited):p

am using a asus p3v133 pc133 m/b via apollo pro133 chipset
two 64mb 100mhz ram
celeron 633e 66mhz @952mhz 100mhz fbs
standard heatsink and fan supplied by celeron manufacturer
230v power supply and midid atx case....
geforce2 mx 32mb graphics

the standard HSF for the celeron works fine for the lower overclocks, but if you want to get HARDCORE!!!!!! then you need a better HSF (heatsink fan)
a 500 at 750 with an orb...thats fricking amazing
my 500 was running 41-45C at 600 with 5 x-tra case fans

my 500 was running 41-45C at 600 with 5 x-tra case fans Thats what i keep hearing. I guess i either just got lucky or I had a rare chip. When i first did the OC it was a little unstabile, would freeze up playing UT. But then i bought some thermal compound and added the second fan and it brought the temp down to around 100 F and it seemed to run lots better and had no more problems with lockups. WooHoo, just got the new mobo and 800 celery together and it runs pretty sweet. Have yet to clock it though, figured i would let it burn in first.:D

Yeah, the Celeron 800's clock quite nicely. Only got up to 1066 myself, but that's more than 25% over what the cpu is rated at, so I was happy till the MB went on me. New board In 2 weeks! Going for the duals, baby!
