Hello.

I own a PIII-700 and I'm new to overclocking.
I understand how to overclock using the FSB, can some one explain to me how the 'core voltage' factors in. Do I adjust this setting in the BIOS? If so what do I set it to?..etc....

All help is appreciated

Thanks.

Core voltage helps make the chip more stable at higher speed. Increasing the core voltage allows the CPU clock to run faster in most cases.

Depending on your motherboard, it may or may not be be possible to change the core voltage in the BIOS.

Overclock your FSB 'til you start getting errors in Prime 95 and you get crashes in games. At that point, increase the voltage by one notch, usually, they are in increments of .05 volts. Do so until you have a perfectly stable system. If you are still unstable at the highest voltage, consider not overclocking as much. It's better to have a slower, stable system, than a fast one where you can't even enjoy it. Watch your temperatures carefully, and happy overclocking

if you dont have a good heatsink, then don't raise the core voltage too high, i personally never go past 1.9 volts (of course the p3v4x only supports 1.95 so there isnt a prob there)....that is the biggest danger to your cpu, but other than that you should be fine, youre lucky too...the 700E is a very respectable overclocker, and the p3v4x an exceptional board...the only thing that may hold you back is that crummy video card (im in the same boat)...cant wait till my 'rents hook me up with a radeon :)....anywayz happy ocing....

It's a very, very good idea to install a better hestsink/fan, and improve the case fans/airflow before raising that vcore too high. Especially the heatsink/fan.

Also, when you do, get some Arctic Silver thermal compound to put between the hsf and cpu. Best stuff available, IMHO.

Thanks for all info guys.
I'll let you know how this works out.:)
