wtf dvd+r blank media deals

Ok this is a very noobish post but just got me a Lite-On LDW 401S DVD+RW 4x drive. Looking for blank media and the software to use for it, don't know what speeds to really get (if it makes a difference), what software is good for copying/creating and what brands of blank DVD's to get/not get. Any help for a DVD-burning 101 class would be greatly appreciated :D

I buy 50 DVD-Rs for $39.99 Canadian. By the way - I have the same drive as you, but you can hack the firmware to make it a dual format drive so that it will burn + and - media.

Also, it can be hacked to an 8x drive too.
