View Full Version : Are you tired of stepping questions yet?

That's right, another stepping question. :)
I've seen a couple of posts saying that higher stepping is better. IS this correct, and, if so, why?
I ask because my 733 is a cB0 and I have an 866 on the way that (according to Intel's chart) could be a B, C, or D. If it's all the same, my son might luck out and get the faster one. If higher is better (he's SOL :D), the 733 will have a new home in his new Shuttle board.
If it's a slot one it can only be a cB0 or cC0, cD0 were only released in FCPGA form.
I tried to overclock my slot one 750 cB0 today, got it to 110 fsb, but would only post any higher no matter what I do no windows... needs more voltage and cooling, which requires a different motherboard and slot one cooler--neither of which are worth the chip which may not work anyway...

It's a socket chip.
And if you want to unload that 750 for a few bucks, I might be looking for a new toy to play with (or for my kids to play with, I should say). :)
Thanks for the offer... it's in my webserver and I'm not quite ready to replace the mobo/cpu.. no need yet as I make no money with the server, only for experiments and self-training (and a couple of my own sites).

As Intel gets its processing line with new toys, it changes the quality of the manufacturing process. You would like to see the steppings like models. The newer the models, the better the manufacturing process. I would be easier to overclock a newer stepping, but also luck get into the equation.
