View Full Version : Help Now!
my friend speaking--------> I installed litestep onto my OS. After restarting my computer windows loaded up saying that it could not find the path C:\Program Files\Litestep\litestep.exe and that i need to reinstall windows. What do I do?:-(
moderators plz leave this here in this forum for atleast the night my friend needs help now.
hit F8 key and start in safe mode and uninstall the program.
try re-installing litestep.
I'd say ignore the windows re-installation message, and try re-installing the program itself.
when un-installing it, make sure you remove it from the registry completely.

Sounds about right... maybe even check the autoexec.bat and config.sys files and see if litestep loads itself with windows and delete ONLY the litestep command lines from these files; that will stop the annoying message probably. However, if you remove anything windows needs from these files, windows may stop (period!).

You've got to be careful with litestep.
There's a very specific method of uninstalling it. If you don't do it the way you're instructed you'll kill windows. (Explorer to be more exact.)
Now, I have a feeling you can modify the win.ini and that should fix things up, but I'll have to read up on litestep.
i asked nicely for this to be kept in the gen forum which gets alot more traffic, which ive asked more then once for other such things.
and ive found that the moderators seem to not have a heart.
dont you care to help someone as much as possible.
sadly disapointed -rob:(

Posting by topic is enforced...just as the rules say it is. There aren't excuses for it to be posted in the wrong section. Even needing quick help isn't a good excuse...I mean, how urgent can it be if you're asking on a forum? Besides, if they let it slide for somethings, more and more off topic posts will be made, and then they'll really have thier work cut out for themselves.

All you have to do to return to the windows desktop from litestep is to boot up into DOS using a start up disk and edit the system.ini which contains a line which reads
shell=litestep.exe
this line refers to where the OS will find the litestep shell if you change this line to refer back to explorer you obtain the windows shell
shell=Explorer.exe
well actually my freind was trying to fix his problem for a while before he got a hold of me then i was trying to help but i just dont miss around with the system.ini and have never heard of the thing he had used till he told me, so we decide to try some forums. and whats that unseen has the fix right there and my friend got the answer from another forum that fixed it
so i would say using a forum for quick fixes does work.

I didn't say it wouldn't work for quick fixes, I just said that if you have posted it on a forum it can't possibly be *that* urgent as not only do you have to wait for a reply, you also have to go to a forum and post the question. Which means that you can post in the proper topic without any detrimental effects. People that would be able to answer your question will probably see it shortly, anyway.
well actually the best reply i got when we still had the problem came from when it was in the gen dis.
P.S. i also posted in here which you probably noticed
