Hi could anyone tell me the when the platinum ti4600 was released and could you also let me know if it's direct X9 complient. I would be most happy if you could.
I have about £200 quid burning a hole in my pocket and I have been offered a ti4600 for that price. cheers

That's way too much $$ for a ti4600. The ti4600, as mentioned by others, is an older DX8 compliant card and furthermore, you can easily get a Radeon 9800 Pro for that price, even within the UK, and it will outperform the ti4600 greatly (regardless of whether it is a "platinum" edition).

On a sidenote, does this ti4600 come with a large blue heatsink and come in a metal canister?

Thanks for that, guys & gals, I have been to this company twice now but NO MORE! they ripped me off for the last time! Yes it does come in the silver can and it is the one with the blue heatsink. why?
I have decided to get the radeon 9800 iceQ

Because.....

:)

Sparkle Platinum ti4600 is basically the brand + the name of the card. Platinum doesn't really refer to anything. After reading the review, it's better to stay away from this card anways. The giant heatsink is a poor performer, and the card doesn't OC that high.

go to www.overclockers.co.uk on the ATi bit go to shappire and pick up a 9800pro for £154 thats about twice the speed of the Ti4600 once the detail is turned up and its DX9 :D

I am going to sound really thick now, there are so many radeon 9800 cards (creative, Asus, saphire and many more) are they all the same except for the software thats bundled with it? sorry to sound like an arse!
I just want to get the best bang for my buck.
Cheers

their the same gpu, and stick to a specific design, but it can be changed slightly, each company also usualy picks the ram they wanna use and the cooling, also to a degree the components like capacitors, some some are cheaper as they use cheaper components, more top of the range priced ones use better components and some cases better faster accessing memory and cooling.

but basicaly yes their all the same, if ur not too bothered about going crazy overclocking etc, powercolor are cheaper.

you shouldnt pay over $100 for a ti4600 nowdays. Hes trying to rip off noobs that think ti4600s are worth $200 and havent heard of any 9800 pros for the same price

That's why I only stop in computer stores to laugh at the prices these days. There are maybe 2 or 3 decently priced stores in town but getting an old video card that performs is next to impossible. Every TI4200 I've seen on the shelf in the last 6 months has been over $140. I've seen one ti4600 and the guy wanted $400 or something like that for it.

The same goes for everything else, though. I can't tell you how many times I've seen an old duron or t-bird proc under the glass with a crusty die for $50+ lately.

:p So true... about half a year ago I saw a Riva TNT2 being sold for $70 and CompUSA. Can't beat that.

Office Max has the Radeon 9200 se for 80$ ... heh

Office Depot has the Radeon 7000 for 119$, the 7500 PCI for $ 78.99 ... the Radeon 9000 for 90$ etc

the sad part is that people actually buy them.
