did you try reseting your CMOS jumper?

Well its not the cpu if you had a good duron. Try booting up with just the bare minimum - make sure there is no possiblility of the mobo being shorted on the case - could be your power supply - if you get absoultely no lights or beeps whatsoever - do you get any leds coming on? Bad ram is normally accompanied by beeps so unlikely to be ram.

ive reset the cmos nothing i get led lights i dont think its the power suply everything turns on i tried a new stick of ram that was working in a freinds pc and i tried every dimm slot so whats next mobo is out ? how can i tell if the mobo is being shorted by the case it worked fine for 2 years then a few months ago it wouldnt boot like now and then all of a sudden it went on again now its out for good i think

Ive taken it apart again and put it back together still nothing
last night my tv got a power surge and shut off but it turned back on. i was wondering if the mobo could have been hit by the surge a few days before would it fry it even if it was off or would the power suply screw up ?

I would deffinately try your power supply first....its a relatively cheap way to find out.if that isnt the problem....well..for one, its always nice to have an extra power supply on hand...and my next step would be to replace the mobo....they really dont like power surges.

heh yah.. this problem is near and dear to my heart. It's probably your motherboard. If it was RAM you would have your motherboard screaming at you. There's really only a couple of things that will cause that.. mobo, processor and power supply. Give it a proper burial otherwise it might come back it's next life as a 14.4 winmodem and haunt you. *shudder*
