View Full Version : The great support of Serial ATA :p
I have been trying to install windows on my Western Digital 250 7200 rpm Serial ATA drive. When I had an MSI K8T800 mobo I reciebed a floppy with the drivers and I would just press F6 during the installation and install windows to my SATA drive. I have an Shuttle AN50R board now and they didn't send me any drivers.
I downloaded some drivers from their website, but when I put them on the floppy and try to install the drive during setup windows does not recognize any drivers, therefor I can't install windows in my Serial ATA, does anyone have the same probelm and has been able to solve it? Or anyone has any suggestions?
Thnx

The SATA drivers you need should be the RAID drivers from this (http://www.shuttle.com/hq/support/download/dwn2.asp?model=AN50R) page. These drivers should work, are you sure you didn't accidentally try and use the RAID utility during the installation of Windows?
I got it working, my floppy drive had something wrong and wasn't reading... I had to change the drive then I tryed and it worked it wasn't a problem with the drivers... Thnx for the help!
i know this off topic but since your talking about SATA, is there a huge benefit from switching over to SATA? i remeber reading from the forum that the beneifit were small until version 2 comes out.

The benefits are small in that not even a WD Raptor can put out sustainable data rates much above that of a conventional ATA-133 cable. The increase in bandwidth doesn't do much for the overall speed of the drive since the seek times and sustained data rates are the limiting factors.
The cables on the other hand are nice and small so it improves airflow :p

thanks for the answer leet! :p
Dont diss raptors , i get good rates with mine

But still, 120MB/s is less than the theoretical bandwidth of 133MB/s for an ATA133 cable, even though it r0x0rs teh b0x0rs ;)
In fact you will max out the PCI bus' bandwidth before maxing out ATA133 or SATA150.
