Okay here goes. I just purchased a asus A7M266, and a AMD 1.4T-bird. I want to over clock, and from what I figure I need to do some surgery. Can anyone assist and tell me or provide some URLS so I know where to go and what to read?
This is my first time to overclock ever. So I figured that if Im going to do it, Im gonna do it hard core, because if I can do it this way, then I can do it anyway.
And please dont tell me I should have got the Epox, its a sweet board, but its on backorder everywhere, dammit. I would appreciate any help here. Thanks
Welcome to the forum! Good to see someone else willing to do research before they dive in.
For starters, go back to the main page, and read the beginners guides. They aren't specific to your motherboard and processor, but they'll give you the basics.
Then, hit the forums. Read through old posts before you post any questions. Just about every newbie question has been asked and answered. You just need to find it. Look in AMD CPU's, AMD motherboard, General hardware, and cooling. Use the search feature, and search for posts specific to what you need, such as your motherboard. Read the advice and heed it!

Read some things on what to do and how to do it on some Forums under Mobo's and processors. I have two options from what I understand:
1. Solder the connections and add a few componets, which are relatively inexpensive, I found at some web sites or
2. Bridge the L1 gate on the processor, which will definetly void any warrenty thanks to the evidence left behind.
So which does anyone recommend? I purchased the Processor OEM, so Im not sure a warrenty really matters anyway.
Next is a question of cooling. I got the Dragonorb III for the processor and as I understand it a thermal compound like Artic Silver II.
Can anyone add anymore input for me or some advice if they have overclocked this board before please? Also I did not look deep last 10 days on the forums, but can anyone include the stats of their puter after it was clocked? Any help would be appricated

You're almost guaranteed to have to connect the L1 bridges if you want to change the multipler. If you're worried about leaving evidence, use a standard number 2 pencil to it. It cleans right off. Just be careful not to crossconnect any of the bridges. That's bad news. You can use solder, which is mostly permanent, or the paint from a conductive pen, which I've heard tell can be wiped out with acetone (paint thinner/nail polish remover).
Some mobos will need a voltage mod if you want to increase the voltage. Other boards have jumpers for it. So it depends on which board you have. Some boards have hardware jumpers, others have options in the BIOS. Again, depends on the board.
