View Full Version : I think I found a great app for stressing CPU

I used to use FAH to test my cpu, but as of a couple of days ago I found that Diablo 2 LOD really hits it much harder. My Duron 750 running at 1020 would NOT stop locking up due to heat. I finally had to take it down to 830 (cpu still locked, changed from 133fsb to 100) in order to play. Is this normal? I have a DD maze 2, aquastealth rad, maxijet pump w/reservoir and my temps at the above speed (1020) NEVER hit 40oC under full load. Running D2 they hit 44oC before locking up.

My thought is that my mid-tower case is holding heat inside too much, but I have enough cfm through the case that it shouldn't matter. I'm clueless at this point and since I'm playing D2 a lot I really need to figure this one out.

f@H doesnt really stress the cpu, the best prog for that is prime95...that really puts stress on your system...

Diablo is a Game, not an App (atleast not in comp lingo)

Do you have a fan on your northbridge? The greenie usually gets some airflow from the processor's HSF, but if you water cool your CPU, it will obviously get hotter. If you aren't cooling the greenie, try it and see if it doesn't help.

oh yeah, i forgot about cpu burn, the problem with that program is that you know no matter how stable your computer is its probly gonna crash in a half hour or less, if you can get 15 mintues with cpu burn, youve got a stable as heck cpu, also for stability test i use cpu stability test, it doesnt stress as hard as prime95, or cpu burn, but it stresses it reasonablyt, and test other parts of the system

If you want a game, try Q3. I've heard is a CPU killer.

Yeah, the CPUBurn set was the only one that managed to detect my marginal mobo instability where BIT and CPU Stability Test (by Jouni Vuorio) failed. UT bots fighting themselves on loop is also a pretty good way to heat up your system.

Now that's a good idea. I just got a new kt7a and my old one did have cooling on the northbridge. I'll slap a coolermaster on it and see what happens.

I was a lock myself. Right behind you. I was the guy who made the scrum move.
