What's the best slocket (slotket or whatever) for p3v4x? I'm thinking of buying the Asus s370 and Celeron2 800 to go with that.
-----------
Current:
Asus P3v4x
PII 350@402
2x 128Mb (100Mhz)
Asus v7100 MX
-----------

How big speed difference is there between the cel2 800Mhz and p3 800Mhz, The price difference is a bit too much for my wallet...

Intel has a web page that lists the SSA's (slot-to-socket adapters) they've tested and which meet their performance / operating requirements. You might might want to check that to see which SSA they recommend for your MOBO's manufacturer. While the page has Pentium III on it it will be the same for the Coppermine based, FC-PGA, Celeron II's. I think the Asus s370 you mentioned is listed on the recommended table in its 1.01 revision.

As far as the performance difference between Pentium III 800 and Celeron 800, it's pretty significant. With double the L2 cache and an increased FSB the Pentium III usually fairs about 25% better or more than the Celeron in most benchmarks that I've seen. But if price wont allow you to get a PIII I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with the Celeron. I like mine.

Thanks for the Slocket info. Anyone got any more ideas/experiences.

25 % differncere? That sound a bit much, doesn't the new Celerons (800+) also have 100Mhz fsb. It sounds quite hard to belive that L2 cache make such a big difference.
Anyone got any benchmarks or something...

Lude,

I should have said that the difference could be up to 25%. I didn't mean that it was a flat out 25% better all the time. Also, depending on which PIII 800 you have the FSB is different. The 800 is a 100 FSB, the 800 EB is a 133 FSB. And lastly as far as the difference the cache makes, here are two reviews of the Celeron and PIII. One actually has them compared with the L2 caches disabled just for the purpose of seeing what a difference it would make.

It's been a general consensus elsewheres that you should use an asus slotket with the p3v4x, generic and other brands sometimes give regerrors.
