View Full Version : best way to put tubes easily on blocks?

I guess you all know what a hassle it can be to get those tubes fit over the blocks. What's the best way to easily make them go over the connections? I now just put some showergel on the connection and then the tubes slide on easily, but I have no idea if this is a good idea (polluting the water...). Got no soap bubbles in the water, so I guess it's ok.

Any other 'tricks' ?

showergel?? I personaly will use a hot-plate with a pot of boiling water to soften the ends of the tubing, and it also helps that they're wet. They go over the barbs easy, and when they cool down they kind of shrink-to-fit around the barbs. With showergel, it will leave them lubricated, and I would be afraid of them slipping back off sometime in the future and soaking the inside of my PC.

Just by getting them wet it could work well, Some have used vasoline, or just regular dawn dish soap, I wouldnt use shower gel.

if you need to use anything to help get on the barbs you are using the wrong size tubing

mine go on great and are not leaking(even without the clamps on)

i just use clamps for added security

Well, for flow concerns I personally use 1/2"ID tubing and 5/8" barbs. Yes I have to stretch the tubing over them, but the barbs are aprox 1/2"ID so they are not a bottleneck in my system flow.

I would be surprised if I used the wrong sized tubing :

It almost looks like you have 3/8ID and 5/8OD tubing. it does look like its streached over the barbs. its very likely Im wrong because its hard to tell from the pic(except seeing it streached around the eheim inlet).

Boil some water, stick the ends of the tubes in the water for a few seconds, slide the tube ends over whatever you need and... you are done!
