OK, I have a real strange problem with my sound card. First off, it's an old ensoniq that came with my HP P400, and I'm running a Kt7a Mobo with an 800 Duron right now (not overclocked).
My sound was sounding pretty horrible (scratchy, interference, would get worse the longer it was running it seemed), so I followed the instructions on Paul's unofficial FAQ'a for the Kt7a and downloaded the ZT bios I believe, and made the other bios changes etc.
I booted back up and started up an MP3 in media player and it made a godawful rendition of the song. It was now screeching like a banshee. Now is where it gets odd. If you take the mouse up to the X to close the window and just press and hold the mouse key, the sound is instantaneously ok (crystal clear). Let go of the mouse button (off of the X of course), and it continues the banshee wailing.
I then downloaded the most recent drivers from Creative, installed them and restarted the computer. To my surprise, I started my MP3 player and played a song, it worked perfectly crystal clear. I was happy I had fixed it, so I started to work on something else. I shutdown prime 95 (which started up when my computer restarted), and the sound card started skreeching again!!! Started back up Prime 95 and it stopped.!!!!!! I have no idea what the problem is, I have never seen anything like it. Anyone have any ideas?
