Excel password forgotten

OK I work for this organization that has a file that needs to be recovered. The fella who created the app had a brain aneurism six months ago and no longer remembers it. Anybody have any ideas aside from recreating the document. Thanks in advance.

Yea, I was going to recommend a password recovery software. All I knew was that they existed.

Well I actually used a recovery tool and cracked the initial password, however it had a password for modifying the document as well. I had to guess that password myself, which took me another two hours.....I guessed the second password by basing my choices off of the first "recovered" one and just got lucky. I wanna know what was going through Stanly Jobson's mind when he cracked that Government password, it's not as easy as the movies make it out to be LOL CYA!
