What you are referring to is a "Built By ATI" Radeon - commonly referred to as BBA Radeons.

They are different, they all use the same processors, but they can use different types of ram and each company uses their own PCB I THINK... The most obvious difference is the cooling/heatsinks and fans.

I can't say much about the overclockability of different makes... But I assume it depends upon the quality of the RAM and the cooling on the GPU.

They're wont be much of a difference between a bba card and a sapphire one. Go sapphire, as it is currently the cheapest. Works very well for me.

If you don't get a better answer soon, you might want to try asking around what kind of ram modules are coming on the different cards right now, and what people are getting the highest ram OC's on.

Same thing if you want to ask about core overclocks... Maybe just asking more specifically would make a difference.

I have a hard time believing the overclockability is almost the same between the different makes. I'm kind of curious also since you asked, and this isn't that tough of a question.

Almost all will be the same. ATi has very strict regulations on the cards that their partners sell, leaving the difference between brands being nearly nothing other than the box that they're sold in. 9800Pro's these days use either Hynix 2.8ns, or Samsung 2.8ns, which are both very nice overclockers. It's very hard to go wrong.

Its essentially the same thing.

Either way it dosnt matter. You can always flash to a different company's BIOS. 99% of all 9800s are exactally the same (physically) within their class (Pro/XT/Non-pro)

There has been very little research into this specific area, but what little has been done shows little to no correlation between brand and overclockability. The biggest difference between the brands in OCing would in their cooling solution. There are several styles of HS being used currently on ATi cards, and some could be more efficient than others. Other than that though, I haven't seen any data showing any really good (or really bad) brands.

EDIT: The sticky at the top of this forum (here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=227071)) contains the overclocks achieved by various members, as well as the manufacturer. You may get some data from that :)

I have heard that the Powercolor 9800PROs OC like a bat outta hell!

Glockowner had his @ 460mhz (core) with the stock cooler. With the VGA silencer he uses "500mhz for several hours, after that I gotta use 480 again"
