View Full Version : Thunderbird 900 at 1.65 Vcore?......OK?
I've got a Thunderbird 900 o/c to 1,063 and I had been using the default 1.75 Vcore voltage settings with idle temps at 38.5C & Load of 46.5C. I was playing around with my Vcore voltage settings in my Asus A7V bios and thought I'd give a lower voltage a try......and 1.65 lowered both my idle and load temps by about 3 deg.C. The computer works fine...no hangups and I tested the loading with Sandra Burn in and cpu lite tester running at the same time with no ill effects. My question is: will undervolting hurt my system? I have 1- 80mm pulling air in the front....a card cooler over the pci/agp slots....a 60mm drawing air out......a 300 watt power supply drawing air out........a justcooler 51/4 bay exhaust in the front and a 60mm Thermaltake 31cfm on a Gladiator Heatsink. Am I using to much power to justify a lower voltage? Their isn't a whole lot of info on undervolting on the internet. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks guys,

the processor voltage doesnt have anything to do with the voltage of the other components

:D Dude,
I think your voltage is alright, my bird was running at 1.74 up until today.Just thoght I would up it to see if my temps would climb. So far only a few degrees.I have a 300 watt power supply and have 13 fans plus 1 dc blower, check my temps below.
AIR COOLED THE ONLY WAY TO OVERCLOCK!!!!!!!!!

If your processor is stable at lower vcore voltage, I say go for it!! no problem there. Joe wrote a front page article about this a while back I think, some people getting strange results with higher OC's from lowering voltage. Phenomena. :)

Well when u can overclock with lower voltage there is 2 bonus lower electricty bill (sliglight like 5cents hehe) and u get aprox 3c said above .... i got a computer that is poorly disigned case i am talking heat problems...i gota spot int he back for a fan i think 60 or 80mm should i buy one and get a like 100 for the front i can stick in under my burner i got 3 free drive bays there.. and close the case so i get a small vacume effct where heat rises and leaves my comp while cooler air cools hehe.....i got cool air doing allmost nothign here

I run my 1.1Ghz AJFA TB at 1.67v, well below what it should be. I can run as low as 1.63v stable, I just dont like running that low incase I am causing problems with SETI@Home.
