here is a link to my experiences with a new p4 2.8c compared to one of my old dual 2.1ghz AMD's...

the upshot of it is that the dual 2.1ghz is still a great system and with dual 2.4ghz possible with mobile chips...
the mpx chipset might last until windows longhorn comes out...maybe longer ;)

I like Xeons better but I certainly wouldn't turn away an MPX system if I came across a good deal.
I'd just skip LongHorn and its Palladium/(un)Trusted Computing barge load of bovine excrement.
I couldn't agree with you more on your feelings about palladium. I for one will *never* use it. I will use a slide rule before I use palladium. The last thing I need is my computer telling me what to do.
However, on the Microsoft site, I found this:
"Longhorn will optionally include the Palladium security technology Microsoft is developing with Intel and AMD (see the next question for details)."
I think palladium will still be optional in longhorn, so if you can disable it, it might not be such a bad thing.
They aren't trying to force it down our throats... yet.

Once all the hardware is in place, they will...
Yep, I know...
I'm really wondering how we're going to get around that.
AMD and Intel are both going to be supporting palladium and it will be obligatory for everyone, even with non Microsoft OS's.
I suppose someone will find a hack to get around it.
It does open up the possibility of another chip vendor entering the market making non palladium chips. I would certainly buy them, even if they were much, much slower. I certainly will never buy palladium required hardware.
I agree on the MPX platform.I chose a big case mod over a hardware upgrade.Doing water cooling ect and when hardware is a must to upgrade I am set with water and a great case
Yes dual AMD XP still rocks. I dont understand when ppl still shoosing dual P3 while the price of a dual AMD is about the same.
My dual AMD at 2.4ghz each does show its power, at least for what i use it for.
