Hi ocforums

This is so cool, havn't seen a forum with this many dual rigs before :D

Anyway, for a while I've been thinking bout bying a dual system, and then I found this site, by covincidense...

What do you think about these things:

Motherboard: MSI K7D Master-L
CPUs : AMD XP-M 2400+
Memory : 512mb samsung registred ecc ram

Don't yet know if they are avavible but what do you say? - I'm hoping to run 2.1 ghz at least :D

sorry for my bad english - hope you understand it ;)

I personally like my Gigabyte board , Mobile chips need no modding to run in Dual in this board.

I have 2x 2400-M's running 2250Mhz.

Depending on what you are using the system for, I say go for higher memory. There is a deal listed over at Anandtech for Kingston 1GB EEC modules for $169 shipped. I orderd the kit and I will have it on MOnday to replace my current 512MB PC2100 NON-ECC :)

I'm going to use it as my folding/evryday pc :)

I can't find the gigabyte here in DK :( - could be nice to avoid any physicial modding of the cpus ;)

at first I think I'll stick with 512mb then later buy one more stick...

Looks like a good setup. You should be able to hit 2200-2500 MHz with those chips.

Welcome to the Forums!!!

looks good..
make sure you get PC2700 RAM so you can chug the fsb up to 150
and how about some slk800's to cool those mobiles..
oh and of course you need a solid power supply to run dual.

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS.................

Look at the stickies and also realize to get a good over clock, if you want one look here:http://www.ocinside.de/index_e.html
Check out the workshop and the interacvtive pin mod guid.

This will allow you to raise the Multiplier beyond the 12.5 max on the boards.

At first I'm going for some cheap air coolers, the later on some watercooling ;)

Thanks, for the advice ;)

I found a danish shop where I can by a GIGAByte Ga-7Dpxdw-P - would that be a better choise then the MSI K7D Master-L - they are about the same price ;)

I like the K7D, but if you get the Gigabyte board, you won't have to mod the Mobile XP's, at all. You will only have to do the pin-mod (which you would have to do on any board.)

That PC2700, CAS 2.5 will be fine. It will be able to run CAS 2.0 at 150 FSB, without any problems, and that is what you need.

Hi again, just looked a little at this page: http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html

And noticed this:
"Please cut all L11 bridges if you like to select a Vcore with the Pin-Mod guide, otherwise you're just able to build a higher Vcore depending to the actual L11 bridge and Pin-Mod combinations."

Does this mean that I have to cut some bridges to get a higher vcore? :(

I don't about the gigabyte, but the k7d has Vcore bios adjustment up to 1.8 or 1.85 volts (i forget).

This means that you'll have to cut all the L11 bridges, if you want FULL control over the Vcore. If you only want to INCREASE your Vcore, then you don't need to do this.

What is your default Vcore? This can have an effect on what Vcore options are available, via pin-mod, without modding the bridges. I don't want to go into detail, at the moment, but if your default Vcore is 1.45V, then the only Vcore that you can pin-mod to, without cutting/blowing bridges, is 1.85V. Of course, if you get a motherboard that gives your Vcore control, like the K7D, you can control the Vcore (after POST) with the BIOS. I say (after POST) because the Vcore control in the BIOS doesn't really kick in, until after the system POSTs. If you are trying to push your chips real far, sometimes the system won't POST because it needs a higher Vcore and it doesn't get it from the BIOS, until after POST. In this scenario, you would want to pin-mod for a higher default Vcore, then use the BIOS control (if your motherboard has it) to effectively lower the Vcore to your desired level.

Ok, thanks :)

The default is 1,45 on the mobiles that I'm going to buy, and 1,85Vcore is more then enough at the first time around ;)
