i have to mod my ti4800SE...and would appreciate quick responses, i'm in the mood NOW :)

i have some old Socket7 coolers, i'm thinking of using them as RAMsinks.

dont know howi plan on monting them yet, i have some questions.

1) How hot do BGA ram modules get? the stock cooling was beefy, but poorly designed....no idea how much heat they throw off.

2) i have some "Artic Alumina Adhesive", 2 part. if i use it, can i remove the sinks afterwards? (without ripping off my ram :) )

3) will half of one of these work well for 2 BGA ram moduales? (liked to #1) they are long enough for 2, but if i used the whole thing i wouldnt be able to cool the core....which i think should have some cooling :)

i have 4 or 5 of these socket 7 sinks, all the same, differnet shades of green anodzed alum...they're about 1.3 AA batteries long and 1 AA wide... the "fins" are about as high as the diamater of the battery. ~75 "fins per side, 2 sides...(sides are iether side of where the mounting bracket goes...)

i'm in 98 right now, installing webcam drivers...i'll try ad have some pics of the HS after a reboot

oh sorry i didnt read ya post right im half asleep so if i do it again im sorry

if u are gonig to use Artic Alumina Adhesive i dont think u will be able to remove the sinks again

also i think the BGA runs pretty hot id cut the heatsinks up to fit nicely

i used AS5 and Arctic Alumina 2-part to attach a heatsink to my SB.
first i applied the AS5, leaving the corners of the chip bare, then i applied the thermal epoxy to the corners of the chip. it's enough to hold it on there, plus you have the higher performing AS5 covering 80% of the chip.

think it would be removeable? i dont want to screw up permanantly...

i plugged in my camera and got some crappy pics, my network is having issues so i tool about an hour to get them to this computer...

stupid shared dialup, and my sister is on the main computer watching flash vids (death to my bandwidth)

anyways, in theorey, the pics are here:

i cant convert them to jpg without the computer my sister is on, i hate this old POS....(166mhz)

anyways, theres 2 pics of 2 heatsinks stuck together...tehy;ve been like that for maybe 30 hours or so, they're lapped and a drop of water is holding them together. weird...heh.

then the other pics are of the socket 7 heatsinks i was talking about...well, 1 of them. AA battery in for size comparisons, sorry for how crappy the pics are, and sorry for them being .bmp...i'll work on converting them in a min. (if i even can)

(edit) i've updated the links to .jpg files, soon as this stupid *$%^@ dialup connection decided it will start uploading the file they will be there. (/edit)

okay, i think the pics are finally up...may have to copy/paste though, i never have any luck with pics here....

SO, anyone think that half of one of those would be good for 2 BGA ram moduales in a well ventallated case?

To attach the ramsinks use AS5 and then a little bit superglue in the corners. They are not stuck permanently.

ASC should work too, but i dont have superglue...are you sure that just a small amount of superglue wont damage my ram if itry andremove hte sinks? if not i'll find some...

don't use superglue, it will come off over time due to heat.

Eh, alright... well is there any way i can dilute the artic silver adhesive so that it may be removed (but not fall off over time)?

i have some, i used it last night to attatch a small SB HS to a computer i'm building for someone (it was getting far too warm and the sound was degrading....of course now i cant get the sound to work at ALL, but thats a different story)
