I just installed another 128megs of ram (crucial cas2). It made a huge difference in the performance. Apps. start faster and it feels much more responsive. I'm only up to 256megs I wonder what it would do with 512.
Anyone out there running xp with 512mbs?
i remember reading an articale some time ago about the optimum memory amount for win98/win2k. 256 mb was the best they found for win98. win2k ran the best with 384mb. so maybe just maybe unless your runnin dual cpus and not really taxing your system for what's it worth 512 may be overkill and decrease preformance. just a opnion, so take it as you will.
I ran XP for a little while with 512, but I couldn't make a good comparison, because I went from:
128 mb CAS 3
to
512 mb CAS 2
It made quite the difference.

You have to think that XP is on par with the same needs as Win2k and with that said 256 meg or more can not hurt. 512 meg should do the trick all the way around.

I ran XP with 384 megs of cas 3 pc100 and it was a smoooth as 2000 with 256 megs of cas 3 pc100- i think that XP is more of a resource hog and runs a little better iwht that xtra 128megs of mem-but shoudl still run good at 256 cas2 pc133

Hey guys thanks for the input. I think I'm going to leave it were its at for now. I plan on building a new DDR system in a few months (waiting for nforce) then I probably go with 512 mbs.
I actually emailed Crucial two days ago and asked them what the deal was with memory in the different OS's. The guy who replied said up to 512 for 95,98,ME and as much as you can add for XP,NT and 2k. The latter I already knew, but I was under the assumption that win9x,ME could only use about 190mb. That was from something I read a couple years back. Of course, maybe the guy figured I may have less than 512 on a Win9x machine and thought he might deter a sale if he told me the truth. So who knows eh? :)

There is a $10 charge for the download and it is $19.95 if you want them to send you the cd. It is good for 180 days after that you have to activate it with ms. Here is a link for you.
