View Full Version : Cheap, sliightly messy, kinda cool-looking way to get more air into the box.

Ace Hardware sells 4" circular louvered vents for about $2 apiece. I mounted one in the side of my case after cutting the hole in the side for it. Cutting the hole is a pain in the butt when you don't have a Dremel tool.
I painted mine case color, but it looks pretty cool in bare aluminum. And for further ventilation, you can drill a few holes in the inside walls of the vent and secure a PSU-size fan inside it with cable ties. You'll have to snip the corners on the fan though.
I'll see if I can't get some pictures of the front and back of the vent.

This is all that's visible on the outside. Good if you don't like the look of standard finger guards.

The inside, showing the trimmed PSU fan sitting most of the way inside the vent.
Nice job! The louvres might constrict the exhaust airflow but if case temps haven't changed much I guess it's OK. You could cut ever other louvre vane to increase the opening for the fan.

Doesn't anyone else have something to say? :(

Nice work, but I still prefer the simple chrome-plated wire fan guards. Don't even know why I prefer them, to be honest. Perhaps how they look.. *shrug* They probably have better airflow as well.
Also, if I put any of these in my next case I think I'll leave them in bare metal instead of painting them. I'll have pictures of that, when the time comes. :)

I wonder if those some in smaller rectangle shapes. Yes, I did paint it myself. 1200-degree heat resistant paint was the closest spray paint color I could find to the color of the case. I wouldn't be surprised if there are rectangular grills too. I picked a round one to contrast with the boxiness of the case. :p
