I have a powerhead 660 170gph and was gonna use it with a black ice micro fitted with a 92mm fan on custom shroud, 3/8" tubing and homemade #rotor style block. It's going to be used on my daughters XP2100. I'm not going to oc it. I just want to see how this system will do.

My question is do I need to submerge the powerhead or can I use it inline? I tested it in the sink and it works fine when the pick-up tube is only under water. I'm wondering if these were designed to be submerged to help cool the pump. Will it wear the pump out faster with the heat it generates when not submerged?

If anyone has tried it please comment. I'll gladly use a res as this setup will be external. It's going to be a great match for her HP 6545C custom case.
