I used Vcool, but windows hangs...
I used wincooler, but no inprovement is reached...
Can you give me the name of a good program that helps with cpu temps? where can I find out?
Thanks.

A program called Rain (http://www.tweakfiles.com/processor/rain.html) is one of the most popular ones. I'm sure you know this already, but it cools your CPU by turning off some functions while its idle.

Please post your system specs and OS you are using so
people can help you out. I have Vcool and have no problems with it but there are specific files for specific chipsets that you have to download along with the Vcool prog.

Me no like Rain.... Made computer slow as my C-64 (OK, so it was as slow as a 386 with Win95). My suggestion is to get something else like CPUIdle.

Disgruntled Rain User (do I sound like a postman?)

Randy, I have the same mobo and using AMD TBird 1.2 Does VCool suck up alot of memory and slow down your system? Although I don't leave my system on 24/7, I do leave it running all night evey now and then... I treid CPUIdle, but couldn't determine if was really working or not! Also, what temp/fan/rpm monitoring program are you using? I have yet to find a good one. I'm currently using VIAhm that came on IWill CD... Thanks!

PS - using Win2K

In my personal opinion, using software cooling is actually bad. I believe that you should attempt to keep your processor at a fairly constant temperature...probably within a rang of about 5-10C would be good. More than that and the bugger starts to expand and contract and so forth..leading to damage. Of course, that's more long term than anything. I guess it isn't that bad.

What it does is send the HALT command to your processor so it doens't do anything. If you're running SETI or something like that it isn't going to do a lick of good except to slow your computer down. Which is something it'll probably do anyway, since essentially you'll have to wake the comptuer up everytime you want to use it.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. :)

Same with that guy who posted above me... I don't recommend using cooling software esp. rain. With rain, my pc performed much slower. And for some reason it put so much of a load on my CPU that my CPU overheated (without any overclocking). The first time it overheated I thought the fan just wasn't turning so I set aside the cables so they could never touch my fan. The second time it overheated (when I say overheat, it means---your CPU starts to smell and you get a small burn if you keep your finger on the CPU/Heatsink). I got rid of rain and so far no more overheating probs.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I also use the VIA hardware monitor. As far as I can tell vcool doesn't slow my system down. It does have cpu throttling options you can set for user defined temps and if those temps are exceeded it will shut down if enabled. I really like the program and would recomend it.
