View Full Version : Is this right?
I have an AMD K6-2 socket 7 processor and I have over clocked it from 350mhz to 400mhz, The thing I was advised on is proper cooling as overclocked processor have a tendancy to get really hot. So this is what i have in my system, is it sufficient?:-
At the front of the case, I have a 12v Case fan, drawing air in, at the back of the case I have another case fan, which extracts the air out, the intake fan is located at the bottom of the case and the extract furthur up, on the back of the case.
I also have my processor fan, and one that is integral to the PSU, I have installed this so that the air is drawn in at the back, and forced thourgh the case, creating a circulation motion, do I need any thing else, as my CPU efficiance is seemingly dropping, and is the cooling ok?

Hi dj2001,
If the temp of the case is 1-2 degree C up to the ambient temp is right, but only 2 fans doesn't make a great airflow.
Do you have used fan of 80, 92 or 120mm?
Two 120mm makes a great job, not 2x80mm, and don't forget to monitor your temps with MotherBoardMonitor.
I hope it helps you :-)
thanx 4 advising, i have 2 80mm fans, and i have blocked off any other grilles, at the back and front, so i created a straigh airflow thought, constant, whrer can i purchuse 120mm fans?

On a lot of web sites or store's of electronic components, depends by your location.
I've used for my Big tower Sunon's fans: 2x92mm on the left side of the cover & 1x80mm in front for the intake, and 1x80mm on the upper back & 1x120mm on top for the exhaust.
well i'm in the uk, but i was wondering if this setup was sufficient?
thanx

Sounds super! I have a 450Mhz that doesnt have that good case ventilation but the hsf i have is to say the least overkill. Mine can hit 523Mhz top staying stable, but I dont run it that high as I run it 24/7 for seti crunching.

Probably is right for your chip, but all depends by your system temps.
For the higher frequency Cpu's is necessary a great case cooling with no less than 2x120mm fans (1 for intake & 1 for exhaust).
I hope it helps you :-)

Blocking off the grills so that only the fans are moving air may not help cooling. Try uncovering some of the unused PCI slots and opening the grills and compare.
I found my temperatures actually dropped slightly when I opened up PCI slot covers and removed the tape from my grills. I think these openings help any excess pools of stagnant air to make their way out of the case by convection.
Rick.
ok, thankyou for all your advice!
