comp acting weird

so out of the blue after running fine for the last few months my comp has decided to start running like crap in that when i click on things the computer will do nothing for about 5 seconds then it will open what i clicked on. Anyone know whats happening or what i can do? i have ran AVG and adaware and i defraged.

Not much to go on from your description. What OS you running?

Check the task manager see what, if anything, is using your resources and if your CPU or disk read spikes for longer then is necessary when launching a program.

No The Hard Drive sounds fine. And I'm running Win XP with SP1

How much RAM you have? My fathers emachine was doing something quite similar, when I investigated he had 128MB of RAM running XP. It simply was not enough to run XP, and the few on boot programs. XP=256MB just for OS I always say.

What does your task manager show? Is your CPU usage spiking? Is there any one process that is taking more CPU time?
