most mechanical pencils ARE #2...but i would use either a MECHANICAL #2 pencil or a radio shack product that connects the bridges (sorry forgot the name)...but it works good

I went down to my local electronics pusher and bought some conductive paint (98% silver) i don't think you'll get a better conductor than that, it's also more permanent than pencil.
You can accidently smudge the lines when you handle your chip when using a pencil to connect the bridges.
I used the repair paint for defogger grids, it's a lot more permanant than pencil. I applied it with the tip of a pin.
I would go the loctite rear window defroster trace paint resin route it works great and you can get it for $7.00 to $10.00 at most any Auto parts store.

I always thought that mechanical pencils didnt have the carbon content to be conductive enough. I tried over 4 pencils. Here are a few I tried...
Mechanical HB ... Fail
HB ... Fail
2B ... Fail
6B ... Success!
i've used hb,b and f and it's always worked... seems like the tbirds are more fussy about what you use to unlock them than the durons, though.

I used a 2H mechanical pencil and that worked just fine.
I just used a mechanical pencil that I had laying around from a pen-and-pencil set that I got about a billion years ago for Christmas. It worked great. I've been singing along at 1210 for about 3 or 4 months now.
