Hey guys. For starters I just want to say HI!!!! Im new to the forums (Posting wise) but Ive been a Overclockers.com junkie for years.. Anyways this is my First post/thread and I hope somone gets a kick outa my infos :D.... SO here it goes.............................................. .......About a month Ago I bought a new system... I had lotsa $ but for some reason my brain turned off anywyas I got a 2500+ and some lame ecs yukko mobo and some cheapo ram and I had the rest of the parts from my old system. And a 9600 Pro, everything in the 1st rig in my Sig.. (HUm rymes!) anyhoo I found this Sweet videocard overclocking tool "Ati tool" and went Nuts on my card, I made this huge sink and got some copper bga sinks and got somthing like 500 // 310 (the memory sucked I guess) so just to see what the card was made of I left ati tool running over night on "find max core" and when I woke up to my Horror I had a CHeckerboard screen!!!! whoops.... To the rma bin it went... about a week later I received my new card tossed all the hardware on and Same thing!...(Checkerboard screen) I tried the card in my unkles comp and Everything worked fine I ran the dxdiag and everything checked out tried o/c'ing it a bit and Yup worked great.. SO I ran out and got myself a nice Abit Nf7-s board *drool*. SO now the point of this whole blaber fest.. It looks like my old card might have been fine afterall and I went through this all for nothing.. Or did I? So far my new card hits 565 // 350 error free.. Im a little scared to turn it up more.. but.. That wont last... SO all in all VEry good luck.. Everything worked out for the best... I just wanted to share that with ya guys n gals, Hope this post is in the right place Ect.. CH33rs all!

You should never leave ATITool on the "Find max [whatever]" for hours on end because it can (and will, as you saw) screw up cards (by stressing/overheating them too much at speeds they were never designed to run at). To be on the safe side it is reccomended to run your card at a few MHz (like 5 or 10) less than ATITool finds as max.

well ati tool found me around 500 core... But when i set it to 550 and then scan i find no artifacts .. atall.. And it was my mobo that died not the card afterall... so thats why i was soo happy!

i've been running 550 // 350 for about 2 days now playing all my games and having a blast... Sofar everything is good.. i would like to try and bump the memory up some more.. but as soon as i try to go any higher the screen goes all crazy lines.. so im gonna see if cooling the chips beter might help a little?...
