ATI RAGE FURY MAXX on AMD Athlon platform

Hello. I recently bought a new AMD Athlon 1.2GHz CPU and an ATI RAGE FURY MAXX. After I install the newest drivers, restart and instead of getting 256 color display I get 16 colors. Even if I manualy change the display setting I have to restart and when Windows (98) loads it again loads with just 16 colors. People told me that there may be a patch but I can't find it. Can any one please help me? I really don't know what can be the problem.

Install standard vga drivers first

restart

then install the ATI drivers.

If you have a via chipset, don't forget to install the 4in1 drivers for the agp chipset first..
