Subject: RE: weird sound from PSU

Sir,

I'm not sure what would be causing that. I know that the power supply's
relay can trip when the power supply is first turned on and when it's turned
off. However, I don't know about a "det det det" sound... though I do
suspect it is the relay tripping. Is wish I could tell you what it is, or
what is causing it, but it is hard to tell. However, as long as everything
seems operational, I don't think it should be a big concern.

Thank you for choosing Vantec.

Subject: weird sound from PSU

MY QUESTION

Hello I have a VAN-470-A power supply.
I get really stable voltages and I have no problems with it however when I
switch my computer off the PSU makes a clicking sound???
"det det det" every 1 second about 2 clicks. This doesnt happen when the PC
is running. it is not very loud and I cant hear it when the case is not
open and I am not close to my PC just a little strange.

any ideals?

Well maybe its contagous. Tonight while I was on the phone I heard a clickinjg sound and thought it was my printer. I got off the phone and fired up call of duty, about half and hour later theres that sound again and I realize its coming from my case. its the fan in my psu. Though yoursnoise is after you shut off the computer mine while its running and its drtiven me nuts. Hmm I just hit the fan speed adjust rheo and it stopped. Wonder if the PSU deserves a rma? I
ll have to keep an eye on it for sure.

BTW why do you shut off your computer. Havent you heard of Folding at Home. (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=108580)

Try it you may like it. Also PMSfishy could use some help. ( see Sig Link)

This is going to sound kinda dumb, but I had the same problem with my PSU a while ago. I looked at it and thought it was a cable getting in the way of the fan blades. Then about 10 mins later the sound started again. I looked later on, and whoever put together my PSU (I got it with a $5 case :p) had put the fanguard on the wrong way round, and the fan blades were hitting it. I was just thinking "AIEEEE!!" but oh wells.
Thats just my two cents :)
