Building a new system and this is what I have.....

P4 2.8c 800mhz (w/ ALPHA Heatsink)

ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe

Geil Golden Dragon RAM:
1gb (512mb*2) PC3500 DDR434 CL=2.0 6-3-3
-- or --
512mb (256mb*2) PC4000 DDR500 CL=2.5 7-4-4

Which set would be better and why?

Not for gaming but for some mp3 encoding and video processing.

P.S. Is there a specific ASUS group for these MB/s?

512mb (256mb*2) PC4000 DDR500 CL=2.5 7-4-4
^^ That one. Intel chips dont care about latencys like AMDs do. They just want stuff to run fast. Plus PC4000 will help you run at a faster CPU clock since Intel chips are locked

Why? What's wrong with the GeIL?

theres nothing wrong with the geil, but if the geil pc4000 costs more than the komusa adata pc4200, then go id go with the komusa adata pc4200. my logic is that ur gonna get for free one heck of a headroom for overclocking with the pc4200. i dont think anyone has gotten less that 285 with that stuff.. if u ever decide to get a 2.4c or 2.6 u dont have to worry about getting new ram...

At newegg, the AData PC-4000 is cheaper than the GeIL Golden Dragon PC-4000. Heck, the Mushkin is cheaper than the GeIL. I didn't check PC-4200 though... the original post I was asking the question about referenced PC-4000, not PC-4200.

yessir u are right ,this kinda morphed into data pc4200. its just that almost all the pc4000 is nothing but binned hynix bt-d43 or used to be some samsung also. im not trying to come off as a komusa freak cause there are good enthusiats memory companies out there like mushkin/ocz corsair/ geil etc. but look at the prices compared to the adata pc4000 and the komusa adata pc4200, especially in comparison to the pc4400. If u only need pc4000 id go for a good company that offers the cheapest. if u want something for the future that will give u alot of headroom in case u want to get a 2.4c or something like that, then my suggestion would be the komusa pc4200 adata hyperram. my logic is there really is not such a thing as adata pc4200. komusa actually hand bins the adata stix and the fastest goes to the pc4200. just like ocz and corsair does for their hi end pc4200/4400. so for about 240.00 bux u can get a gig of ram that will compete with that hi end stuff for much cheaper.. the choice is really yours and what u actually need to suit ur needs...
