Yes, get an AIW. It does it all.

TV-Out: Output TV signal from computer.
TV-Tuner: Cable/Antenna TV Tuner (sometimes with FM Tuner). This term is generally used interchangably with TV Capture Card.
TV Capture Card: Record TV on a computer. These are sometimes not cards at all but USB/FireWire capture boxes. This term is generally used interchangably with TV-Tuner.

Yes, the All-in-Wonder will do TV tuning and capture but you are really better off buying a seperate TV tuner/capture card for many reasons including:
AiW cards are generally slower than their non-AiW versions
When you upgrade your graphics card with the AiW you're also getting rid of your TV card
AGP only has a year or two left in it (as a slot you can expect on the majority of new mobos) so you can't take your TV card to your next computer

Some good TV cards are the WinFast TV2000 XP for budget, the ATi TV Wonder series (not All-in-Wonder) for a bigger budget and the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-x50 series for great features at reasonable prices.

next question !

what about be the most efficient AIW ? budget limited @ $200 :)

the cheaper better but can do the job !

watch TV on PC + capture movie dvd instead of ripping and de/encoding :(
what would be an ideal choice :)

Should be able to get a 9600AIW for that price.

Maybe a 9700AIW if you do some searching.

ok :) thank guys !

I think go with Mr.Radar route !

more flexibility !

but can a $100 or less TV capture card can capture at 800 x 600 good ?
i often heard horrible story about frame dropping

If the AIW cards let you watch TV on your computer, then I assume they would allow you to play Gamecube and PS2 on your computer as well?;)

No TV capture card will do 800x600. DVDs are only 720x480 (NTSC, 29.97 fps) or 756x480 (PAL, 25 fps) and that's what most cards (including the TV2000 XP, TV Wonder series, and PVR-x50 series) max out at. Most can playback at higher resolutions but won't capture at that. Video capture cards only account for a very small percentage of all frams you'll drop. Most are due to hard drives being too slow, bad sources (video tapes), or too slow CPUs.

So you're saying with winfast TV2000xp (already ordered) can capture at 720x480 fine (7200rpm hdd + 3200+amd) ? if so then why spending more $ on other capture when they all limit at 720x480 or 756x480 ?

the reason I ask this because I want to the know the diff and price gap and performance ratio among diff aiw/capture cards.

thanks

I'd look into gettinga used AIW 8500. Cheap, and it was a good card.

The cards either use a) higher quality parts or b) have more features (FM tuner, real-time MPEG2 encoder, TV-Out, etc). Most of the time you can't tell the difference with higher quality parts and the extra features are just that, extras.
