I just installed my new water system and am able to get 2.6ghz
out of my good old faithful barton 2500. Anyways Im a noob and was noticing when I went to lan party recently and kept having overheating probs and had to clock down to 2.5ghz to get it stable. So Im assuming its because of the difference in temps on the floor versus on a tabletop? Also My system runs 45c (on the floor) when overclocked to 2.6ghz. I anticipated slightly deeper cuts in temps when I upgraded from an aquaius deux . I now have a dtek spiral block, a eheim 1250 pump, a JR 120 radiator with a sunon fan, and 1/2" tubing. I have the radiator mounted outside the case. Lots of case fans too. Im wondering would a RBX block from danger den be better?

Are you using any thermal paste? Have you tried re-mounting the waterblock? That seems to do wonders for people.

able to take a pic? would be easier on everyone rather than guessing.

Yeah Im using artic silver 5. Ive mounted it twice to be sure. Does it matter about the posistion of the radiator? Should i not mount it on its side?(inlet and out on the side)

radiator mounting is flexible as long as it not too high, getting sufficient air, and fresh air (not acting as the exhuast for ur case)
as for the lanparty, i had the same problem, lanparties have a lot of computers. If each computer gives off like 200watts, and theres like 10 computers, thats 2000watts, thats like a good sized heater, lol.
probably warm there then in ur room.

heres some very quick pics. you should be able to pic out the different parts.

Lan parties are usually hotter than your average room. If you want to upgrade your waterblock, unless something strange and new has come out (correct me if I am wrong) buy either a Whitewater Water block or a cascade waterblock. at a Lan party you might try to put your case on the floor, that is what i normaly do. since everyone has there cases on the table and het rises the floor is normally significantly cooler.

rad placement matters, but only to a degree, it should be about the same unless you are feeding already hot air into the radiator

both WW and cascades are out of stock (well.. cascade is more like not being produced anymore :-/) An RBX is fine, comperitivly speaking, the cascade is the best and the WW is second, but we're talking small margins. Its'll be a good upgrade from a spiral, but u may want to consider selling ur ehiem and getting a mag 3 or a mcp600 because blocks like the WW/RBX work better with pumps with higher heads.

I just bought all this stuff LOL Im gonna get another block but the eheim is 370gph. That isn't enough???

I doubt that a Mag 3 or MCP600 would be more than 1-2C better than the 1250, even with a WWR.

I would not go out and buy a new pump, there is no need. however you will notice that head is stressed throughout the watercooling forum as the determining factor, not just GPH, i believe one of the stickies has more info.

thats to bad cascades are not made anymore

Is the fan on the rad shrouded ? What CFM is it ? That is the first place to look at dropping temps and the place to get lower temps easily and inexpensivle.I would suggest a more powerfull fan and or a rad that accepts 2x120mm fans mounted to it's face .

However try this shroud 2 fans 1 oush 1 pull on that rad and i am betting you will see a nice drop in temps...

I have my fan for the rad shrouded. Its a sunon and puts out a lot of cfm. I dont want to get tooo noisy. I think i've found a happy spot. Got my 2500 barton running at 2.6 ghz. Idle temp is 43c and stressed is around 47-49c. Its stable. I am going to get another waterblock For sure and possibly go to a double rad. Ive been looking at the danger den RBX blocks. I have heard a lot of good things about danger den and Its only fifty miles from me. How does this block compare?????
