View Full Version : Tubes going yellow....

I just switched out my Aquastealth water block and radiator for a DD maze2 block and cube radiator. Noticed that my tubing is starting to turn a nice shade of yellow. Not even a month old at this point.

I just used regular tap water with a bit of Water Wetter. Is this normal or is there a nasty chemical reaction going on or something?

Thanks for the help.

While I am at it, does it matter if one uses tap water vs. filtered/bottled water? And how much water wetter should I use?

Thanks,

Kibler

The whole idea with distilled water is that you don't get anything but water. Tap water has other things, like trace amounts of minerals, and sometimes chlorine (disinfectant) and/or fluorine (tooth helper) are added. The yellowing is probably stuff in the tap water adhering to the tubing.

If the stuff is sticking to the tubing, it's probably doing the same inside the waterblock and radiator. You might want to clean the system out and put some distilled water in there.

I have the same setup and I used Distilled water + Purple Ice.
My tubes are a little yellow also.

I use distilled water "Baby water" (My wife buys it for the 10 month old, yeah I stole some)
I added way to much watter wetter (overkill right)
Now my hoses are a nice pink tint, even when empty. The black light sure does make 'em look wikked though ;)

What tubes did you use. There are some materials that will turn no matter what you run in them. The outside is still exposed to the heat and air.

A silicon based tube would work fine but is more expensive....

I just used the tubing that came with my Aquastealth kit, I am sure its nothing special.

How exactly would I go about cleaning the system if I find out I have to?

What does silicone tubing cost and where do I buy it?

Thanks for the reply Endeavor, really helpful.....

I tell you what..

Let me see if I have any links saved and I'll get back.

I would imagine some of the retailers that sell water cooling HW would have this.

I picked up 10 feet of clear tubing at Lowe's Hardware store. I am sure Home Depot has the same thing. I don't know where you live so that may not be an option. Cost was less than $5 I think. I KNOW less than $10.00 US.

Or a well equipped hydraulic hose store! Not too expensive, approx. 20$ pr.meter 3/8" size.

DD sells silicone tubing, but as others have said, the cheap Home Depot stuff seems to do quite nicely.

I've also noticed a yellowish film on my tubing, using about 85% distilled, 13% antifreeze, and 2% water wetter.

Out of curiousity, how are your temps with the DD equipment compared to the performance with your old setup?

Its actually quite a lot cooler :-). I dont know if its the "cube" radiator or the dd maze2 block that makes the major difference. I would think its the radiator mostly cause the one that Auqastealth uses is pretty slim.

Its idling at 28.1 C right now, used to get to maybe 30 C if I left it a while with the old setup, and that was leaving it overnight with the side panels off etc. This thing can go from 42 C (its max now) to 30 C in under 2 minutes I'd say....

I am happy with it :-)

if you used water from your sink it will turn yellow and have a slimy feel.... I was testing a pump which it died. I ran it for 15 days stright. It was a water fall type pump.... Anyway the hose turned a light shade of yellow.

Cool. What was your max temp with the old setup? The reason I ask is that I'm about to make a similar change (Leufkin block/rad --> Maze2 & CC). In fact, my DD stuff should be delivered today.
Thanks!

You might have to use some form of algie treatment in your water (ie as used in water beds).
