so i got this cd-rw with e.c.c. 5 and i installed everything to find out that the program wouldnt work on xp and you can download an update but im not the original owner so i cant get the update. i got mad and downloaded a bunch of different nero and adaptec programs to find out that non of them work. do burning sofware makers make there products not burn mp3s anymore? i have downloaded mp3s and copied mp3 of my cds on my computer and nothing will burn correctly. they sound crazy and scratchy. and when the burner is done with a burn it says "illegal medium, burn process failed." but all the text is write and the songs r the right length. i dont get it. is there anyway to make one of these programs work? i looked thru the property menu but couldnt really see anything that would stop it from burning an mp3 file.
help? :(

try updating your CD drivers
try to get the ones directly from the company that makes the drive

also please give specs on the drive

All you need to do is burn it as a Data CD. Try burning at a slower speed, like 8-16x.

um, as far as specs go im not sure what u mean. its a iomega zipcd 12x4x32x cd-rw. the driver that windows gave the cd-rw when i installed it was from adaptec and when says that the drive will cause some instability and shuts down the driver. that must be the problem. i will look at iomegas site for drivers but if they dont have one what is there anything else i can do or does that mean this drive is nolonger any good as far writing cd's goes.

if i burn it as a data cd then how is my cd player in my car going to read it. im pretty sure it will not. i have had it tell me that a cd is a cd-rom before. and as far as slower speed goes, i will try to lower it but its already running slow.

Hmm, I think you have to burn mp3's as "data"..
If your cd player is mp3 capable, then it will read the disk.

nope, tried that long ago. if you burn it as data cd then the cd player reads it as a cd-rom disk and wont play it. at least my last 2 cars did that. nice thought tho :D

i got sick of trying different things and wasting cds so i just registered the software in my name. im sure roxio will have a problem with this seeing as how this cd code is already registered in another persons name but at this point i dont give a rats as*. i got the update know and saved it on a disk so this wont happen again. i just hope roxio doesnt kick my door down with a fat copyright lawsuit. :(
