Hey, I'd really appriciate some advice, I'm only 16, and I live in England, So my money is short, I have £100 to spend and I need to know how to adjust the Clock mutiplier on my motherboard,I have reasonable knowledge on working a motherboard, I just want to see if I can push a 500mhz AMD-K6II Socket 7 processor to above 550mhz(Which IS my motherboards limit) Could Anyone tell me how I can go about that, thankyou so much for your help!!

Well ig your looking for that, just go into the BIOS, and adjust the FSB, keep pushing ithigher, untill eventually you get errors then bring it back down again.

thanx,

Read you manual for your mother board you probably can just change the "jumper setting". Your mobo may also alow you to adjust your fsb multiplier and core voltage by simply using your system bios.

If you don't have a manual go to motherboard manuals.com (http://www.motherboards.org/manuals.html) you will need to know the make and model of your board and you will probably need acrobat readed.

Good Luck

100(fsb) x 5.0(multiplier) this is probably the setting in your bios for your K62 500mhz processor. If you simply adjust the fsb higher you will inturn overclock your processor. Like if you change the fsb to 110 your processor would become a 550mhz cpu 110 x 5.0. If you are unable to adjust your fsb higher you can simple change the multiplier to 5.5 (100 x 5.5 =550mhx processor).

Now every mobo(motherboard) is different but you can most likely adjust your fsb up or down , your multiplier up or down and your core voltage of your cpu aswell. On my mobo (supporting K62 cpu)changing the fsb speed also changes the ram speed along with the pci speed on some newer more overclocking friendly mobo's each of these three things can be adjusted individually.

I will atempt to show you a grid of MY mobo so don't adjust your cpu by these spcifications:

MULTIPLIER

J1 J2 J3
3.5 off off off
4.0 on* off* on*
4.5 on on on
5.0 off on on
5.5 off off on

CORE VOLTAGE

J4 J5 J6 J7 J8
off* off* off* on* off* 2.2volts

Frequency mhz (FSB)

J1 J2 J3 J4 CPU SDRAM PCI
off on on on 66.6 66.6 33.3
on on on on 90 90 30
off* off* on* on* 100 100 33.3

NOTE *Default Setting

I hope this will help you let me know how it goes. :)

Thankyou so much, my FSB is already at 100, which is the maximum number, but my multiplier is at x4, but can go up to a x5.5, which, if i gradually flick the switches and get higher, they muliply together , getting my mhz!
i have loadsa cooling fans installed, so that isn't a problem!
thankyou so much!

LMAO, I did not now you guys across the pond had "special" motherboards. Do they have better engineering like your cars, or are the tastier like your beer? OK that was stupid, but it was funny none the less.
