This pump has worked well in my system for several weeks- quiet, good flow in a fairly restrictive system, etc., but when it gets turned off and turned back on it sometimes takes a while to "kick"on.

It is not hooked up via a relay (thankfully)- I just have it all plugged into the surge supressor power block and flip it on there. When I flip it on, I can hear it humming, but I sometimes have to wait minutes for it to actually start pumping.

Other than that problem, the thing works great. I have just been leaving the pump on all the time and it is faithfully running when I get back, but I am concerned I may be seeing a more fundamental problem forming.

This has all the signs of a pump headed for the dumpster, but that would be a total pain.

Any thoughts? Could it be fighting the restriction of my tubing?

Thanks,

Mechsiah

Well, a little searching on google helped some. Some guy in the UK had a similar problem with this pump. He said a little super glue to lock the impeller fixed the problem.

I think I understand what needs to be done (the impeller moves around on the shaft- superglue it in place) but any additional comments are welcome.

Isn't it better on all these types of pumps to leave them running as long as possible. rather than restarting them all the time? I am thinking I am just going to leave my water cooling running all the time basically. Even if my computer is shut down I will just leave the pump running. This wouldn't hurt anything would it.

You do not want to glue your impeller to the shaft, then it will not turn. The impeller is in 2 parts and each can turn slightly, these 2 parts need to be glued together with a tiny amount of superglue, do not get any glue on the impeller shaft.

there was a guide around here somewhere for how to do it

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will hunt around for the impeller How To- I seem to remember seeing it somewhere for another pump.

Maximus_OC- I think running the pump all the time is common, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was better for the pump than constant starting and stopping. I am still tweaking things, though, and flipping it on and off are going to be a reality for the next few weeks.

You want to do something like this Link (http://www.wc101.com/guides/ViaAqua/)

I use the same pump and I leave mine on all the time. I have had it about 3 months now and no problems. It might be gunked up inside. The superglue mod helps for vibration, but I am not sure how much it will help your problem. I hope it works for you
