I am looking into getting a bigger drive. I know the price difference between them is small but I am thinking of getting a used drive, which there are many more ATA.

My question is has anyone done a benchmark before and after changing from ATA to SATA? I tried a search but couldnt come up with anything.

Thanks.

There is no reason not to get SATA nowadays when your board can support it. You dont necessarily need the WD Raptor line of drives, there are other 7200 RPM SATA drives from Hitachi and other manufacturers that are more reasonably priced.

Get SATA.

I switched from a 120gig WD JB "special edition" to the 80gig SATA Hitachi and it scores 1243 or somthing like that to 1024 in PC Mark.

Same with two other bechmarks I ran...The Hitachi SATA is much better.

And in faster systems hard drive performance is the bottleneck so in my mind anyway SATA is the way to fly.
