Sorry first post... I'm usually not cruising the computer forums as I live on the car forums... but anyway..

I am upgrading from a single cpu 800mhz celeron setup to:

Asus CUV4X-D motherboard
Dual Celeron 2 800/100
512MB pc133 ram

currently running windows 2000..

All I play is games and some internet stuff on occassion.

1. Will my games be noticably faster or smoother with dual cpu's?
2. Is it possible to overclock dual cpu's on this motherboard?

Thanks guys..

From the specs I read, that board will not support dual celeron processors... only single celeron processors and dual Pentium 3.

Yes, you can overclock dual CPUs (again, only Pentium 3 chips) and yes games and everything else should run fatser.

my bad..

I got the MB-CUV4X-D that supports dual cpu's...

hmmmm thats gonna suck.. i just read your reply again.. and it clicked.. p3 not celeron.. hmmmm

what board will support a dual celeron setup? I already have one cpu 800mhz celeron in my system now and dont want to ditch it..

Still doesn't change anything...

Also looks like celerons aren't even supported (normally the manufacturer specifies that in their specs).

see here (http://www.maxgroup.com/Products/product_details.asp?item=AS04CUV4X-D).

Keep bumping heads on the posts... :)

There is not celeron dual support, the cpus don't allow for it.

Back in the 300A and 366A, etc days, the celerons could run on dual boards like the BP6, but since the coppermine core they disabled this feature (apart from expensive mods from what I've heard).

Thanks.

I'll just have to wait and find two p3's to put in it..

I really need to hang out here more.. i'm so far behind the times... I feel old now.. LOL

DON'T FEEL LEFT BEHIND!!

I was out of computing for 3 years and got my first machine in over 4 years November 2000. Thanks to friends at work and this forum I've caught back up in a hurry.

Now's the best time for technology as things are constantly evolving, and best yet -- cheaper than ever.

I know what you mean.

I'm gonna still order the stuff and see what happens. If anything I'll just have another processor to sell to a friend and buy one p3 and then later another p3 to fill the other spot up...

Parts ARE getting cheaper by the day.. memory when I got started in computers was a couple hundred dollars for just 4 megs... sure has come a long way...

Most of the memory prices have dropped in the last 18 months too, which makes it that much more amazing... and now there's a surplus (if you can imagine all the memory slots in all the pCs in the world being filled with 512 MB chips... Dreaming again, how long was I gone?

I remember upgrading the PS1...1Gig Western Digital drive was on $300 on sale 4Mb RAM was also around $300

Of course that machine was something else compared to my old Tandy COCO3

*Update*
Apparently there's an adapter you can get that the cels fit in, and then fit into the sockets of the dual nother boards that will make them work. I got this little tidbit of info from my brother who built a couple of graphic workstations using dual celerons with the adapters. Now if only I can get him to remember who made them. Apparently they work by rerouting a pin on the CPU that disables dual support. I'm still in the procsess of searching all the companies I know that supplied Empac (...where my brother used to work till the company went under, the guys that made the disasterous "Blaster PC").

Ok, correction, I found an article with reference to the dual celeron setup. http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/99q2/990510/
Read the whole thing, not just the parts that seem like they suit your case. I'm not too sure this'll work with the newer celerons.
I also found this on Intel's site...
"Intel® Celeron™ Processor
Dual Processor Support

While some motherboard manufacturers purportedly have designed motherboards for dual processing, the Intel® Celeron™ processor, per our design specifications, is verified for uniprocessing only. Contact the motherboard manufacturer directly for support of these installations.

Users interested in dual processing or multiprocessing should use the Pentium® II or Pentium III processor."

Found it!!! An suprizingly, it's an MSI product!
Check it out! (http://www.triptonics.com/lab/)
Now the only problem is finding a nice dual slot1 board...

read carefully -- PPGA adapter/chips are celeron 500mhz and back. Like I have already noted, coppermine/fcpga celeron chips are NOT dual capable (per the intel quote above too).

So, what about a dual cel 500 OC'ed? Think it's worth the cash? We have dual slot1 Mobo at work sitting there collecting dust. And I mean DUST! Thought about offering my boss $20 for the thing cause I just can't see us selling it to anyone anymore. The thing is ancient, and is worthless to anybody but me and my friends. It's kinda funny the looks ppl at work give me and my friend when RMA goes to clear out their old outdated stock. My friend and I dive headlong in to the stuff, looking for anything we might need at some point or another.

The new Celeron's are neutered by Intel, there isn't an adapter in the market that will fix this.

No dual Celeron's aren't worth it. You will only get 600Mhz out of them if your lucky.

Get PIII's.

I had the BP6 and dual 366 celerons overclocked to 550 mhz and they ran nicely as a webserver and workstation. I have since sold them (for a profit!!) and upgraded (see specs below), and my new system kicks the dual system's butt on everything. Now I'd prefer one super chip to dual so-so chips anyday.

Just kicking around ideas, for when you find things in "Bob's bargain bin". The old outdated stuff that most people don't have a use for, but some of us collect. Might ba able to get a couple of Seti and Folding machines going with the extra stuff kicking around here at work...

Yeah, but imagine what life would be with two super chips......
