Hi all,

Has anyone else had internal cd-r drives fail during these heatwave temperatures this week? Let's get a list going.

Last night my HP 8110 cd-r drive failed to record. It looked like it was writing, but after about 40 minutes the drive locked up and I was forced to restart the computer. To my surprise the disc appears to still be blank.

HP 8110/8100. Case internal temperature: 43C (measured by thermometer). Drive temp probably much hotter. (45C is the max operating temp according to HP).

Anyone add to this list based on their experience?

Rick.

CD-ROM drives can certainly overheat and when they do, they can't read the CDs in them. Happened to a couple of my friends. Most likely your CD-RW drive experienced the same thing but it might the the media used, or that something has worn out, or maybe your packet writer goofed up -go to some CD-burners' forum to find out more to be sure. (Stupid DirectCD!)

Just turn up the A/C.

I've never seen my case temp go over 33C with a room temp of 27C (~78F).
