Is there a way to tell if a certain stick has Winbond BH-5 or BH-6 sticks from the numbers on the ram? Does Kingston, Corsair, and Mushkin have different systems for marking BH-5 sticks? Or do you have to test it? So, 220MHz w/ 2-2-2-5 @ 2.8V is mostly BH-5 right?

bh5 seems to run higher at default voltage (2.6-2.75). the bh6 in alot of cases can run just as well, but u need more voltage (2.8v +)

Basically, I want to know how analyze the numbers on the ram after taking off the heatspreader for whether it is CH-5, BH-5, or BH-6. Thanks.

Do you think these sticks are BH-5?
2x256MB UN-MATCHED
Kingston Hyper X PC3500245 FSB @ 2-2-2-6 @ 2.9v Sandra Benchable, and 225 2-2-2-2 @ 2.9v 3DMark Benchable. Stickers on the sticks read as follows:

KHX3500/256
9905200-012.A00
1210615 - 2.5v

KHX3500/256
9905200-020.A00
1122192 - 2.5v

Somebody offered to sell me 2x512MB of guaranteed BH-5 for $310...he said the model number is this: KHX3200K2/1G. He tested it for 2-2-2- timings at 200MHz. It's BH-5 correct?

Not likely....

There are only a few gaurnteed BH5 canadates:

Mushkin PC3500 L2 Black
Muchkin PC3700 L1 Black

Ie

PC3500 (2-2-2-11)
or
PC3700 (2-2-3-11) (2-3-3-11)

If it not one of these it could be BH6

well i finally pulled off a heatspreader to find my memory is ch-5..ive asked the question here before whether anyone thought it was bh-5..i was told it was most likely ch-5..i had to check for myself..what a bummer..what is the max volts to put on these things? it will do 250 fsb@ 3.3v..is it recommended to keep that kind of voltage on them on a daily basis? becase the computer is much snappier @ 250fsb..and i would like to run it at them speeds. ive seen posts all over that bh-5 loves voltage..what about ch-5?

You sure?
I heard all khx3200's are bh5 and khx3200a are ch5, is that false?

Yeah, that's what I believed also. KHX3200K2/1G is supposed to be all BH-5 while KHX3200AK2/1G is CH-5.

meatneck, keep it at 250 FSB. If BH-5 and BH-6 can tolerate 3.6V according to Winbond, CH-5 can tolerate 3.3V. Just make sure there's good airflow in your case and they aren't that hot.

i was just reading some old threads that said corsair uses a voltage regulator on the ch-5 chips that will only allow 2.7v..i think that its false because mine will boot at 2.7@250fsb but will crash soon after..if the vlotage regulator thing was true that would mean if even if i bumped it to 3.3 it would still crash..when its set at 3.3 it runs fine and will run prime95 all night long

It CAN have BH5.....but its not gaurnteed. I thought u were asking for a gaurnteed BH5 solution

Yes Kingston's PC3000 Often has BH5.....but its not gaurnteed.

Ive heard of pplz getting both BH5, 6 and CH5 from Kingston's PC3000

512(dual channel)pc3200(corsair llpt)
Ch5 often has problems with high voltage.....some brands more than others. My Mushkin CH5 will not boot with voltage over 2.8v. It wont load windows with anything over 2.6v

You sure? I was talking about khx3200, not khx3000.

I don't think Kingston ever used BH5 on the PC3500 stuff.

You need to know what is marked on the chips, to know for sure.

Don't guess there a a very good chance you will be wrong.

Rule of thumb with kingston.
DW-50 is BH5
DW-60 is BH6
DW-45 is mostlikely CH5 but with the posiblity to be BH5.

I'm glad my CH-5's can handle the 3.06V it's getting then :). I tried lowering the vdimm but it didn't like it.

Thanks for the replies guys but I don't think I'm going to pay $310 for the 1GB of BH-5 he offered me. I think I'm just going to get 1GB of OCZ EB ram and see how it turns out. Seems a lot of people at Xtremesystems have had success with it, 2.5-2-2-5 @ 2.8V for 233 FSB. Winbond is gone, I guess we have to deal with it. :)

You are wrong. I have HyperX3500 BH5 chips, and I know for sure because I took my heatspreaders off and looked. I have two sticks of 512mb, and they both have BH5 which do 2225 at basically anything I throw at them. Currently running at 200x11.5 2225.

Ok, since OCZ EB ram is way over-priced at the moment and not stocked by many retailers (including newegg), I went to Fry's. This was from reading the BH-5 thread at Xtreme Systems. I was looking for some Corsair XMS PC3500 because it is guaranteed BH-5 but I could not find any. I tried looking for KHX PC3200 non-A but there was none either. They even did not have any KHX PC3000, that has the possibility of BH-5 chips, rebranded DW50 BH-5 chips, rebranded DW60 BH-6 chips, and rebranded DW45 BH-5 older and CH-5 newer chips. In my desperation, I even tried looking for BH-5 chips on value ram. Obviously, that did not work. Fry's apparently only has OCZ LE PC3200 now (CH-5). So it looks like I'm going to order the 2x512MB KHX PC3000 kit from ZipZoomFly for $215, it seems many still get BH-5 from it.

Oh yeah, run your memory without the heat spreader because it will run cooler (I know, ironic huh). But you guys probably already knew that it gets you a better oc...
