ok I got a supposed athlon tbird 1.4ghz, heres the stepping

A1400AMS3C
AYHJA 0145APCW

now my question is, after inspecting the cpu, the L1 bridges are pencil modded. Why was this done?

Usually the pencil mods are done to allow greater multiplier or voltage control, right?

Dunno if that is the correct way to do it for that chip, or if that chip even needs it done.

i dunno either, it came like this, so thats why I asked.

L1 is to unlock the chip.

133 bus chips, are unlocked.

Just take an eraser to it, and start over.

what is the first letter/number of the 3rd line?
the chip you got is unlocked, you will not need any mods to be able to change multipliers.
if you got "R", "Z" or something like that as first char of third line you got an awesome overclocker.
my 1400 Ayhja 0142 "R" would do 1580MHz at stock voltage.
