View Full Version : Hydor L30 Problem

Hello. I am just putting back together my new watercooling system. I tested the Hydor L30 pump before I put everything together and it worked perfectly.
However once I put everything together and filled up the water, the pump did not work at all. It was not even trying to move water, in fact it did not make any sounds at all. I took everything apart again and tried the pump in the pool and it did not work so I figured it was broken. Then I took the magnetic motor part of the pump out and put it back in, and the pump worked again perfectly. Then I hooked it back into the watercooling sys loop, filled it up with water again. Once I had everything setup again, I plug in the pump and nothing, dead, as if it wasn't plugged in.
I repeated this process again and again. I know for sure there is nothing wrong with my loop/flow/water, something's wrong with the pump.
Anyone ever had a problem like this? Does anyone know of a store in SoCal that carries these Hydor L30 pumps.

Thanks in advance for responses.

PS: My loop is simple, PUMP>RAD>CPU>PUMP, and I used a T to fill it up. I had the exact same setup before with a different radiator and it worked perfectly.

Your pump's fine. Mine does the same thing. To fix it, I pull the pump apart with it turned on and when it starts spinning I QUICKLY put it back together and never unplug it.

Mine doesn't stop all the time, but I still don't unplug it. I notice that when i unplug it, if it makes a "Click" sound, it won't power up when I plug it in again. Oh well...

BTW, make sure you fill&bleed your system after the procedure I described as it tends to leek quite a bit of water, obviously.

uhhh seriously?... I'm not going to leave it running forever. The pump is defective if I can't ever unplug it.

I think it's a design flaw. Anyway, it doesn't do it ALL the time, I can unplug/plug it in ~10 times before it does it. Then again, sometimes it does it the first time I unplug it.

And what's wrong with leaving the punp on 24/7? I leave 2 desktop's and a laptop on 24/7... The desktop's fold of course.

I often go to LANs and I can't have a pump that only turns on whenever it feels like it.

Now I have to wait a week before I can use my computer again +wait for new pump to come.

Should have bought the Eheim which always works. Grrr

Nope, it's a defective pump. I turn mine off and on 2-3 times a day and it never fails to start.

For me, what's wrong is that I pay 37 cents US per kilowatt hour. If I leave my machine on 24/7, that equates to around an extra US$65 per month/$780 per year.

Since everyone's situation is different, 24/7 is neither feasible nor desireable for everyone.

The L30 is a very solid pump, you just got a bum one, man. Chin up, the next one should be better :)

I really hope so. The pump is going back to DTek tomarrow for replacement.

Well if you pack up and do a lot of lan parties..Look at the MCP600..It is 12v powerfull as heck, quiet and being plug and play would fit nicelt with what you are using your system for...

Yeah, if i had to pay that much per KW/h I wouldn't run it 24/7 either...

Hafa, where did you buy your L30? I bought mine from D-tek and am having the the starting problem.

I got my L30 from www.voyeurmods.com along with just about everything else. They are one of the few companies which will ship here via USPS.

Drawback ? ? ?
No pump on the market has such power and uses such little energy,Is so compact yet HEAVY and quiet.I see people commplain about price and it amazes me that the person complaining usually has a Kick a^^ system with everything top grade and yet gets a Via 1300 pump lol.....LAn parties you say ? You use this pump and I bet you can become a distributor !!

I run 2x2248 on a Dual AMD.I am pushing over 200 watts into my loop with the MCP600 using almost 8 feet of tubing and idle 10c above case.... 25c, idle 35c, fullload 40c.It is amazing but maybe it is just simply the FLOW rate the MCP600 has in my dual water block, power crazed P/C.......

Ok, so maybe D-tek does something to these pumps similar to an impeller mod on Via 1300 that makes them hard to start or something? Just a guess...

Yeah, I see your point about the price Diehrd. The fate of a 2 grand+ system is in the hands of your pump, shouldn't you get a good one? (Yes I know it wouldn't kill the entire system...)
