anyone know whay windows xp would put everysingle peripheral on irq 7?! im getting lockups and stuff when playing UT and CS
here is the list of things on irq 7

ac97
usb
geforce2
linksys nic

so baisically everything plugged in or attached, why would it do this my bios assigned toatally different irq's and when i ran 98se i had zero irqsharing and the only thing changed is the OS. why would it disregard the bios assignments and then turnaround and stick em all on the same one "what the hells up with that?" anyone know how i can change this? device manager will not let me alter any resources

Only remedy I know of is to install without ACPI enabled in the BIOS.

Disable, reinstall, everything has its own IRQ.

Another way is to go into Device Manager (assuming this works for XP like it does for Win2K) and changing the Computer type to Standard PC, reboot and then let Windows reinstall everything.

ACPI is of the debil...

Jon is correct. I had to turn it off in my bios and then do a reinstall.

Now everything has its own IRQ no sharing! something I could not accomplish in 98 no matter what I did.

Btw what kind of motherboard are you using? The Iwill doesn't have the option to shut off acpi in the official bios you will need the Luckydaze bios.

I'm speaking of the kk266 btw. If you have another mobo I can't help you.

sure enough, it worked thanks jon, and im running a soyo k7vta-b mobo hugo, and i cant turn the acpi in it either. so i changed the computer type as jon suggested, now it doesnt lock up at all , and i played ut for 6 hours straight last night and ran my FaH client all night and every thing is fine
