View Full Version : SL6WU overclock and vcore
I'm testing my new SL6WU with 30 caps, and would like to know what is the maximum VCORE I should use in my testings without damaging the CPU? So far I've tried up to 1.75v which actually read as 1.7v.
I can loop through 3DMark2001 at 5:4 254MHZ (202MHZ 2x512MB BH-5 2-2-2-6) when I'm at 1.75v (actualy 1.7v). Haven't tried Prime95 yet. I'm on air with Spire EasyStrem IV (it's not so good I guess?).

Man this is a little high vcore for air, i myself (and quite a few others here will agree) dont like to go over 1.65. Hows temps?
Alot of guys say 1.7v is the max for these new chips on air, I've never taken one over 1.65v. Will it run 255FSB at a lower vcore? I'm running my SL6WK at 254 right now on the stock vcore.

Then you are lucky. I can't seem to run even 250 at 1.65v stable :( I thought the SL6WU is able to do more...

I put a big fan blowing into the case, so temps aren't the problem. I just don't manage to go far with the CPU for some reason... Any ideas what to try? Burn-in a bit?

just dont go over 1.7. try uping your vdimm and your apg voltage too. sometimes it helps. WU are not "suppose" to do better just that people right now has more success with it. i mean, Fuzion has a good WK in hand, mine can do 250 @ 1.625 easily, just pure luck i guess. memtest and dual prime it everytime you change something. good luck! :)

Do you think the IC7-MAX3 will be better with the 3.0C than my AI7? My mofsets get so hot when I run prime at high vcore.

I don't think you would really see any overclocking gain from the Max3, but you would see an overall system increase from the canterwood chipset.
I wouldn't recommend going over 1.7v for the CPU, and I'd also recommend switching out to a better air cooler for your CPU also.

the max speed i can get with my SL6WU is 255 at 1.75 vcore. At 1.7 can barely get 245 fsb:rolleyes:
i try to keep it 1.75 or lower for 24/7. i'll use up to 1.8 for benchmark runs. if you only have one rig and not alot of money i would advise keeping it 1.65 or under. as you can see i have a few rigs in case i lose a cpu. ;)
I manage now to run at stock vcore at 240MHz FSB and still loop through 3DMark2001. I think it's a bit better than what I could do a day ago. However, when I run Prime95 I don't get an error, rather everything freezes and I have to reboot. Is that a normal behavior? Upping the vcore stops this freezing.
Also upping the vcore makes my mofsets very hot on my AI7, at least according to ABITEQ.

My 3.0C would never get errors in prime, just reboot. I found that it needed more voltage to run. I have an IS7 and if I set the voltage to anything over 1.65 in bios my pwm tep goes thru the roof (even tho it only gets about 1.56 at that setting).

Same problem here with the PWM with my AI7. What vcore have you settled for in the end?

I think Im sticking with 1.65 in bios, my case is a microATX case so if I go over that the pwm heat just bothers me too much, it can get into the 90s, but at 1.65 it usually maxes out in the 70s. I wish I could go higher, but 3.7Ghz aint bad.
I would like to try an asus board, it seems that people can oc higher with those boards given at specific voltage settings.
