I need to hook up my computer to my stero using optical out. The audigy 2 doesn't have optical out on the card, only on the internal drive. Is there a something I could get to connect to the audigy 2 that would give it optical out w/o buying the internal drive?? Thanks a lot!!! :)

I have a couple and at least one extra digital audio out to PCI slot from motherboard converter. I think it will run on a standard SPDIF output and it has both coax and optical outputs. The tricky part is that it's got 3 connnectors.

You could wire it to the appropriate pins listed in this thread (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=268106)

here's the connector and its connection diagram

the 5V might be just slightly tricky since you'd have to go to pin 1, but the SPDIF and ground could connect directly to pins 17 & 18 respectively with the plug as is.
At any rate, it seems a retively simple feat. Just match designated connection for 3 wires.

anybody see any problems with this wiring solution?

By the way, no charge as long as you actually attempt to use it.

Also: you could just use a digital coax cable if your stereo has an RCA digital audio in port.

I'm still working on the pinouts for the A2 - I just havn't had much time.

The SPDIF out pins on the A2 header might be three or four different different stereo PCM outputs used for the proprietary Creative Labs digital speakers. Instead of putting Dolby/DTS decoders in all the speakers, Creative offers some digital speakers that use a special 9 pin DIN connector to connect to the soundcard and use that to carry regular stereo PCM signals (wire 1=front left/right, 2=rear left/right, 3=sub/centre, 4= mid left/right, etc).

That was a bit of a ramble but you get the idea.

I wish Creative would just publish the pinout like they did with the earlier cards.

What are you talking about? The circuit that you make? If yes then how do we arrange a pickup??
