View Full Version : Please help with SATA configuration
Ok, I've got in the end a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA. I now have a problem setting it to work with my AI7. I've got an old 40GB WD connected as IDE1 master, and a CD-RW and DVD-RW connected to IDE2. Windows recognized a new hardware and lists my Maxtor, but I can't see it in the drive list. In the BIOS the OnChip Serial ATA option was first set to Auto but I also tried Enhanced Mode with "IDE-3 Master" setting which still didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I take it you already installed the SATA driver. If that is the case you most likley need to format the drive. If you have not installed the drivers, you are going to need to do that, before windows can "see" the drive.
Right Click My Computer --> Manage --> Disk Mangement
Find it in there, and then format it.

Thanks fishy! It's working. Should I assign the entire 160GB to one partition? Also, why doesn't Windows XP gives me the option to format this drive to FAT32? Is it because of its size? And what is this dynamic drive option? Should I go for it? I actually want to make this new drive my main one, meaning install Windows XP on it.
Thanks again pal :)
