ok, here is my view about it.
You spend money on the system, than you have to spend like around $70CAD for every game. You can use the system only for games.

PC costs much more, but you can download demo games, and most of the games are not that expensive. The graphics might not be as good, but they're still ok. On computer you can use a trainer or cheats to beat the game if you can't do it without the cheats. and you can get access to this place on the PC! :)

Well if you are into cheats, there are quite a few for console games as well. Sure the console's are expensive, but the nice thing is that you can rent a game first and try it out before dropping the coin on it, something that you can't do with PC games (legally anyways). I know of a place that does rent PC titles (and no it's not EB) ;-) If they ever got caught, they would likey get their asses kicked.

The Xbox is going to be very cool, the thing with it is that there will be games on there you simply can't get for the PC (and vica versa). (Project Gotham, DOA3, HALO) Besides as much as I love my PC's, it is nice to settle down in your armchair and play some sports or racing game with your buddies in front of a big screen TV.

The Xbox will also support HDTV and Dolby Audio. Guess what I am buying this fall, a nice 43" or larger HDTV to go with the rest of my home theatre rig (And XBOX). I am just waiting for my buddy who works at a smaller computer chain that handles console stuff to tell me I can pre-order and it's a done deal.

Well we can consider X-box to be Semi- PC.....

X-box has

GPU that is slightly More powerful than GF3
Hard Drive
CPU ~766 Mhz ( not sure exactly but in 700 mhz range)
ethernet card for broadband

etc......


Plus PC does not have Such Developers like Konami, Namco, Tecmo, Square, Capcom, and Much much more...

Expensive ??? I don't think so. X-box costs $299... GF3 by itself $350... Do the Math.....( hehe Jaguar adv).....
Overclock ???? No need... I spend enough time tweaking my PC..

As for games. I think they are worth $50 a pop. I mean you won't see Tekken 4 or VF 4 on PC.. Not even FF10.

Now you know why games such as GT3 and Final Fantasy sell in Millions where as games on PC sell in thousands, sometimes in a Blue Moon they will pass the 1 million mark.. Piracy.. For PC you can get Every game that comes out on the internet.. In some cases even 5 days before their intended release.. Sure Console piracy also exists (ps 1 case), but they still manage to sell 80 % more games than PC market..

Dreamcast was online for free, when I got a used copy of NFL 2K1 for $12 (it includes 50 hours, which never end). That game kicks mucho ass. If you were wondering, no I did not buy a Dreamcast, my cousin passed it to me.

Xbox has windoze.
Xbox has DX8 and DX8 compliant GPU.
Xbox's P3-700Mhz wont do miracles.

The actual game code runs in any PC as it is. The DX8 GPU code runs in GF3 possibly requiring little changes. And I bet the WindozeX is function compliant with any other windoze. So porting from Xbox to PC is very easy. I bet many developers will develop with their regular PCs with GF3s and Radeon8500s to save costs from the SDK Xboxes and then "port" the game to Xbox when its almost done for Xbox tuning.

In my oppinion Xbox is a "hack" for the game houses to get console revenues out of their games. Many games were possibly originally designed for PC but quickly "changed" for Xbox to get better sales. Halo being a good example. And I bet well see many PC ports to Xbox as this requires practicly nothing from the developer. Geforce4 will no doubt run Xbox games w/o any changes to the DX code.

Those "water blowin" Xbox titles would run just as well on yer average GF3. I think.

Ive got DVD for a year now. And my Vortex SQ1500 soundcard has had Dolby 5.1 decoding (can be done in software also) and even the optical output for surround amplifier for 2 years now. Xbox's boofed up GPU wont last too long. 6 months? How much do U people give it?

think about it. xbox is basically a pc. doesnt it run a form of winblowz ce. i bet it emulated on the pc perfect within a year.

sony already has most of the good console companies signed to licences. nintendo has the only games with caracter following "metroid, mario, pokemon." so that leave xbox as basically a toy that lets you play computer cames on your crappy tv. sure xbox will get some good games but i bet nintendo's new system will be 100 times more fun. playstation 2 probably will get an upgrade to playstation 3 before we know it.

if your thinking xbox then buy a good computer instead and wait for it to be emulated. or buy the same game for your pc for $30 less.

I'll keep my pc. those screen shots? yeah I guess their good but on an analog tv? don't set your hopes too high, I think most tvs have a res of like 535x500 somthing sh*ty like that, my monitor goes up to 1900x1200. you want to see good graphics, play alice.

Ok, check this out... think about it like this. Sure X-Box's GPU is more powerful than a computer's... but no matter how powerful it is now, you can't upgrade it. It will only be as powerful as it is now. Whereas computers will continue to develop until eternity. Soon enough, nVidia will come out with the GeForce3 Ultra, and GeForce3's will go down even more. Then they'll come out with the GeForce4, then the GeForce4 Ultra Hyper Phatty Boombatty Crazy Kicknuts. Then the GeForce 5 Super-Brain To Enslave The World. But through all that, the X-Box will have it's measely little slightly-better-than-GeForce3 GPU.

wanna know the truth? all the hype about vid cards and stuch is 95% BS. it's proven your eye cant see faster than 30fps, (film is 24fps). so whoopedy-doo...i can now run CS at 1280x920 @70+ fps...but i cant tell.

they'll always make up some new gimicks like sharper picture (higher resolution, or antialiasing), more fps (which dont mean squat past a certain point), or other eye candy.

imho, unless you're in need of some CAD or 3D animation, you can go with the old "outdated" model and still get great quality for browsing the net, fragging strangers in CS, etc... (examples being the old gf2, vodoo5, stuff like that you can pick up for 100 bucks or less)

i guess one other thing...if you have the need to spend obscene ammounts of money on something, there are definitely worse things to waste 400 bucks on than a brand spankin new video card (however it will be the "outdated" model here in a few months).

xbox is a 700mhz pc with 256megs ram a 10GB harddrive and a beefed up GeForce3......for 299 bucs....good deal I think....buy a keyboard,mouse, and you got a stripped down pc....


but I'd rather get a better pc
